The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Jonathan Coulton, beloved songwriter of "Portal" and "Re: your brains" fame, is playing in Camden (London, not Scotland) on the 20th of March. That's in 11 days. I couldn't see any threads about this, which has now been corrected.
Edit: It would appear the gig is 14+, so even if you're only a wee-whippersnapper you can come along and enjoy the goodness!
So who's going, and do we go for pints in a drinking establishment before hand? Pip pip!
I'm pretty temted but other than the portal song I know nothing he's done.
You should go anyway. The energy in his shows is absolutely amazing, as well as his interactions with the audience. I guarantee you, if you go only knowing "Still Alive" you'll walk out a fan.
There were Vikings and boats and some plans for a furniture store
It's not a bodega, it's not a mall
And they sell things for apartments smaller than mine as if there were apartments smaller than mine
Seems JoCo is getting all international star fancy on us, and getting into videogames and featured on news sites. Looks like he's actually becoming Mr. Fancy Pants.
...Welcome to my secret lair on Skullcrusher Mountain...

Martin Luther King Jr. was born in Atlanta. However, not even one hundred clones of the celebrated civil rights leader could remove Georgia's reputation as the birthplace of Joseph Stalin.

Man, Camden is like, 8 tube stops from me. I'm not going all that way for some energy.

you need to get your ass into gear and become a JoCo fan. It's a travesty that some people only know him for Still Alive, when he's done so many more/better things.

yeah, but the chances that our pants are as fancy as his pair are pretty slim.
So, should I go along to this, or would that be me taking a risk about a guy i've never really heard (haven't played Portal) and taking a ticket from a genuine fan? But then if he is as good as you guys say...

Go to Youtube. Search for "Code Monkey", "Skullcrusher Mountain" or just "Jonathan Coulton in LA" and you should find a few songs to listen to.
The concert is £15 prebooking at Ticket Web. It's taking place at Dingwalls on the 20th at 7:30pm (Dingwalls is in Camden at Camden Lock). Expect lots of audience interaction.

just go to his site, jonathancoulton.com
he has a newbies section for people who want to start to know his stuff.
I love how he has all his stuff on his website for free listening. And under the payment info he has the line "Already stole it? No problem! Pay for it here!"
Or something like that.
Right, I got tickets for the show - I've thrown myself on the mercy of the good taste of the GT forums and am bringing friends. I'll be the guy with the handlebars mustache
guys, thanks for the advice - the concert rocked so hard
although I don't think that Coulton quite realised how popular he was in the UK till he turned up in London. It was fucking amazing how many people in the audience seemed to know his songs
Absolutely. Amazing gig. I don't think there was a single song when the audience wasn't singing along.
One of my favourite bits of the whole evening was when someone in the audience yelled "I love you GLaDOS!"
Cracked me up.
But really, too many awesome bits to mention. Thank God I filmed most of it. Just a shame it's on my crappy mobile, although I expect one or two YouTube links to pop up any time now.

It'd be nice if he came to south Florida one day. Or even the Gainesville area.
My Backloggery
I love Coulton. I wish he'd come to Idaho
THREAD DOES NOT DELIVER.
Or something like that.
I was hoping against hope that some how he had gotten a Stadium gig at Camden Yards, in Baltimore.
Me too. And then I thought, "Poor bastard."

I'd love to, but I'm coming to the gig straight from work as it is. Leaving early enough to grab a pint is just begging my boss to fire me.

My friend shouted out "She's mine" to that.
It was pretty damn good. Looks like he's pretty enthusiastic about coming back too.
did they sing with British accents?

Thank God. I missed tickets to this show, and I was beating myself up about it.
