[RUMOUR ON] Dawn of War 2

So I won't take Credit. JJ found this image. Obviously a Space marine. Obviously having the words DAWN and a Space marine in a PC gamer mag make me think of one thing:

Dawn of War 2.

So, being a huge fan of the first one, which was developed by relic, I must say Dawn of War 2 would make me very giddy. Taking many of the elements found in CoH (also developed by relic) I'm sure they could make a fantastic game. Warhammer 40k using great cover elements? A resource system that causes you to fight a whole lot? Yes please.

I can see the connection, but it seems rather self-defeating as they just came out with a new expansion.

I wish it was DoW 2 and I want it to be DoW 2 but it's not. If it was DoW 2 relic would patch their fucking game(s).

It's seriously probably something stupid if it's 40k related at all. Like Firewarrior 2.

But... but... it says it's a new DAWN. D:

Seriously though, I don't see PC getting firewarrior as it was a PS2 game. That is clearly a Space Marine and a new dawn is a little..... telling?

Yeah, but I commonly see two reactions:

    a) play the old game(s) to get ready for the new one

    b) just wait for the new one because it's going to be better anyways (not necessarily true)

For example, say when Wrath of The Liche King comes out, Blizzard announces World of Warcraft 2. There are some people that might think the expansion is a waste of money if a newer, superior version is coming out in the future.

It's not merely telling, it's screaming in ecstasy at the top of it's lungs while tearing out the heart of a mutant space kitten and waving the little mutant space kitten parts over a crowd of cheering fans. This is Warhammer.

Also I demand Jeremy Soule scores this one. The other guy who did the expansions was OK, but the original DOW? I listen to some of those songs every now and then (Specially Space Marine and Chaos themes).

I wouldn't put it past a gaming magazine to think referring to anything 40k as "Dawn" as a cute pun is appropriate.

Which means it could be the 40k MMO.

Fine, maybe it's Warhammer 40k: Space Marine. It would make as much sense as firewarrior did.

Man, all I can say is this:

Dow2 better take some fucking gameplay cues from CoH

Doctrine tree-styled tech system? Hell yes.

Cover system, if you can make it work with melee units? Sure.

armor units with seperate HP values for their constituent parts? Yes please.
and maybe, just maybe, in-game armies that are a bit more honest to their tabletop representations (for example, why the hell do tau get stealthsuit teams, an unit catagorized as an "elite" in the TT, as a weakass, pathetic scouting unit in DC, when pathfinders are just sitting there, ready to be used for that purpose? Where the hell are my plague marines, my striking scorpions, my demolisher tanks? huh? where are they, relic?)

Soulstorm keeps the community active and engaged, and serves as a continuing vehicle for training newer staff and testing new shit. It was probably also cheap as hell to make and gives them some operating cash... Relic is pretty small compared to a Blizzard or what have you.

I read somewhere they're making at least two unannounced games right now, so I'm thinking another CoH expansion and DoW2. They also bought back the rights to Homeworld though, so who knows.

If it is DoW2, you can be sure there will be Tyranids.

How can they have Russians, Americans, and British all on the same map unless they make it be set in the tail end of WWII? I think they've been pretty careful in making all the maps (even multiplayer ones) be set somewhere in France or Germany, or at least look like it. But with Russians, they'll have to have Eastern Europe maps where the Americans and British weren't present.

Oh wait, they can actually include Japanese, and then the Wehrmacht and PE wouldn't get to fight with them on the Pacific based maps. Hmm... maybe I'm thinking too hard on this and they're just gonna throw them out there without regard to accuracy.

Well, i figure the campaign will be accurate but for multiplayer who gives a fuck and they can mix and match.

My guess is it's a preview of the new Warhammer 40k MMO game that's apparently under development. I bet they're going to give it the dawn of war title to help tie it together with the RTS series, Similar to Warcraft.

I still don't get how the MMO will work.

    Choose:

    a) Puny human IG.

    b) Space Marine.

Seriously, who isn't going to pick a Marine? Unless they make them a special unlocked option, like Jedi in SWG or those weird fucking aliens in CoH.

I'd hope for DoW2 though with more TT units. Chaos Terminators, woo.

Space marines should be unlockable or some shit. Otherwise the space marine players might actually 100% seriously outnumber the space marines in the WH20k universe.

And that is just plain crazy.
