Brawl Custom Control

Now, call me an idiot if you must, but the answer to this is not obvious, or I wouldn't be asking.

How do you use custom controls in Brawl? I know how to configure a controller to custom settings, but whenever I go back to the game, it just uses default. I'm doing everything I can think of - saving it after I set them up, and saving that setup to my Wiimote. What else do I need to do to be able to fucking Grab with Y?!?!

    Did you make sure to select your "name" on the character select screen?

    Nnno. I didn't know you had to. How do you do it? Is there something you have to highlight? I never noticed it before.

    On the bar that says "Player X". You might have to select the pencil itself, but either the bar or the pencil should work.

    Also, do you have to do the same thing to use custom layouts in Adventure Mode?

    You have to "click" on the pencil. This is on page 16 of the manual, FYI ;-)

    As to the SSE, you do have to pick it there too. I would check to see how you can change it if you already started the game, but my Wii hates Brawl so I have to wait until Nintendo fixes it up so I can play at home :(

    When the game starts, go to Options -> Controls. There you will be prompted to either select a name or click the first choice for "Create New entry" or something like that. Give yourself a 4 character tag and select your control type of choice, then change the controls if you no likey.

    In SSE (Sub-Space Emissary), I don't know if you can change your tag once the game has started. But I know you can choose it once you start a new campaign.
