I have been running my Comcast box into my tvs HDMI output for almost a year now, and it has been working fine. I recently upgraded my 360 to an Arcade to take advantage of the HDMI. When I hooked it up, I get a black screen and an "Invalid Format" message on my tv. (Olevia 232T) I tried different cables so I know its not the cables. When looking for issues, I could never find a problem specificaly talking about my exact model. Some people have been having the same issue with the 232V and a firmware update fixed that. My model does not have an available Firmware update.
My question is, has anyone else had this or a similar problem? Some said that the Xbox HDMI automatically defaults to 1080P and since my TV doesn't support that it would be the problem, but I've used the other 360 cables to default it to a different resolution using VGA cables and composite, but neither resolved the issue. Is there a fix or am I screwed because I bought a bargain tv?
I have a similar TV (Olevia 537H) and while I haven't tried a 360 with HDMI, I know the HDMI port works fine on it, because I've tried various resolutions on it through my upscaling DVD player.
I don't know why MS would default it to 1080p though... they should fix that ASAP if it's true.

Yeah, my HDMI works fine on the Comcast box, and even on an HDMI hub with my PC running to my TV, it's just the damn Xbox 360. I've tried blind setting it to 720, with a black screen, knowing the 360 is on and knowing exactly where to go to change it, but I don't think the 360 is even running correctly, because I know how to blind turn off the system using the controller, but it doesn't work when I get the Invalid Format on my tv.
Every time I poke into one of these threads I learn of a new brand of televisions I'd never heard of before. Of course being Canadian thats not really surprising, these lines don't make it north of the border.
Yeah, Olevia are an offbrand, although they've been pushing their products a lot lately, seen them advertise on ESPN and such. Great TVs in any case, from what I've heard they use LG panels, and the picture quality is certainly better than many of the name brand sets I've seen.

Might want to check to see if the firmware for the similar TV is also compatible with yours. You never know. A lot of times model numbers that differ so little just indicate they were sold at a different outlet. One letter indicates Best Buy/Circuit City, another for Costco/Sam's, etc. The TVs might be identical. But before trying the firmware, make sure to research this! I'm not responsible if you FUBAR your LCD. :P

So I called up Olevia support and it sounds like a problem they've received alot and had a couple fixes ready. Set 360 refresh rate to 60mhz? Couldn't find that option, but told them I had to move on to the next:
Resetting TV to factory settings. Nope
Resetting 360 to factory settings. Nope
Different HDMI cable. Nope
Use component cables to set resolution to 720 then try HDMI. (the one I was certain would work because I had read on different TV sites people having problems doing this with their PS3s) Still didn't work.
They finally told me to just contact MS and I told them it was obviously an issue with my television. They put me on hold for about 10 minutes then I sounded like they either hung up on me, a phone died, or there was a problem when trying to transfer me. Either way, I'm pissed because I went through all the time securing a couple extra HDMI cables and a decent switch box all for it not to work because of this fucking brand.
If anyone has any other ideas of things to try, I'm open ears.
My TV would not display the signal from my cable box when I tried to run it on a DVI cable. Appearantly my TV (a panasonic) did not meet DHCP standards. Fuck you industry!

I've done this once or twice so far; it's fairly straightforward, you just need a USB memory card.
The serial number on the back of your TV should show whether you have a T-11 or T12 (there's only one firmware for all T-11 units; the T-12s have several different versions of the firmware, depending on some of the TV's components). At best, installing the wrong firmware version will simply fail.
There is a note in the changelog for the T-12 versions that states the following:
> 1. XBox 360 Elite compatible problem of supporting the best resolution setting.
(my guess is that the reference to the Elite is a holdover predating HDMI rollout across all 360 models)
Wow, that worked like a charm. I've searched since I got my tv for firmware updates and could never find them on the Olevia site, even the phone guy had no idea. I must have been doing something very wrong I guess. Thanks so much. I just have one question. Did it effect your cable box (if you have one)?
After the update my Comcast DVR box won't work through HDMI, the display keeps flashing DU...something, too fast I can't read it. I'm gonna reset everything to test, but for now, 360 works super duper on HDMI and it seems my cable box has been bricked. Hmm...

No cable here; we're cheap and in an area with decent broadcast reception; a pair of $5 rabbit ears nets us about 20 OTA channels. Sorry that my suggestion seems to have horked your cable box.
The firmware update download functionality on Olevia's website has never worked for me, either. I got the information I posted regarding their firmware server, etc., from this AVSForum thread:
I poke my head in there every so often, as I've found it's one of the more reliable sources of information re: my TV that I've seen thus far. Someone there may have had similar cable problems as you. (there should also be a general Comcast thread around there somewhere)
I bought an HDMI switch box. It was working fine with my Comcast box and my PC hooked up. The Firmware update I just installed now refuses to let my Comcast box run through HDMI. Comcast customer supports phone lines aren't even putting me on hold, they are just saying call back later, so I'm on the phone with Olevia support, who is trying his best to be helpful. Hopefully theres another fix so everything becomes cherry.
Edit: It turns out the Firmware update upgraded the TV to be fully HDCPcompliant, which is why it works with the Xbox HDMI now. Problem is, the Comcast box isn't up to being fully compliant, so right now hes working on getting me a firmware downgrade, which will be fine untill Comcast finally fixes the situation.

(this is Olevia's server; don't be alarmed by the IP address - I thought it was a bit odd/sketchy at first)

I hope that helps - good luck!
