Nah. It's on two consoles, amounting to a little under twice the install base of Halo 3.

If GTA4 has the same attach rate as Halo 3 it is going to sell 6 million day one and go on to sell nearly 10 in its first few months. Which I fail to believe will happen in any shape or form.

don't get me wrong, it will sell a lot. but over a longer period of time to a much larger amount of people.

Im sorry but very very few games will have the attach rate of Halo 3. Not even GTA4, though it will sell a lot.

Someone thinks too highly of halo me thinks.

Seriously? You don't think GTA would sell better than Halo? GTA?

    Attach rate =/= total sales.

In the case of Halo 3, it does. Unless people are out there buying more than one copy of the game, or are buying the game without owning the console.

Maybe I am lowballing GTA4s sales potential.

I mean it will be huge, and will probably surpass Halo 3 in total sales. But it's attach rate is a whole other matter, and I dont think many games will come close to Halo 3s ludicrous 50 or something percent attach.

though if any do, gta4 is the best bet.

Attach rate is a console-wide statistic, and for the 360 it is the average number of games owned by a 360 owner.

Its really the entirely wrong phrase to be using in this discussion.

GTA4 has a slight advantage in that it's on two consoles.

However, GTA has always been an offline playable game. Halo, while great, it really depends on Live.

So, even if GTA4 sells more, you're still going to see a crapload more people on Halo. Most buyers of GTA4 probably won't even have Live.

The attach rate for Halo 3 was 50%. Because 50% of 360 owners bought it. I think that is the correct terminology, perhaps market share would be better.

Regardless, GTA4 will outsellf Halo 3 easily. Not only is the series as popular if not more popular it is selling to a much larger amount of customers. I expect serious marketing from both sides also, as it is one of the biggest multiplatform titles too.

GTA4 may well be the highest selling game this year. The only contenders I think are Brawl or Gears of War 2.

The tier below that consists of MGS4, Wii Fit and a bunch of other high profile yet perhaps not as megaton sales potential titles, such as Resistance 2.

From all we have seen of GTA4 it fully deserves these sales too. San Andreas was fucking great.
