Career change to computer related industry advice

Hello nice people.

See here is my problem. When I finished high school awhile back i went to college for a technical trade and wasted two years of my life at school then a few more trying to ply my trade. I've reached the point where I am asking myself why in the name of jebus am I getting dirty, busting my ass and getting stitches from sharp metal when I am computer literate and a quick learner?!

So here I am looking at a career change, but I don't know which direction to go in. Web development? Systems Admin type of stuff? Html, Java, Asp, PHP, MYSQL?

I'm on the fence on going back to school tool. Before I make that kind of decision I'd have to do some serious hands on fiddling since I'd be going from handling my bills on full time employment to part time and moving into my parents basement again. If I do go back to school I will probably be going into this college program. I wish it was more condensed though, three years is along time.

I'm already playing with some basic HTML stuff and having a good laugh at it since the basics are, uh basic.

So do you guys have any suggestions as to what direction I should go in for a worth while career making some decent money? Any self teaching books or programs that you could suggest to get me on the right foot?

I need to make a decision soon as I am going to knock out the foreman at my current job shortly.
