My AC isn't blowing cold air, if I just run the fan all night with the system off...

will that be a significant power usage that would make me crap myself come electricity bill time? I don't think it would be, it's just the fan

To clarify: I've got both AC and heat off, but the fan is on so there's air coming out of the vents but it has been neither cooled nor heated. And yes it's cooler outside than in here

Yes, using just the fan should drastically lower the amount of power that A/C takes to run.

A standard fan would probably be slightly more efficient, but it's hardly worth pulling out the A/C. The cost difference would be pretty minimal, if any.

This all assumes you're talking about a window unit btw. Not that it would make a big difference if you were referring to a central A/C system though.

Oh lemme be specific, I live in an apartment, so I'm gonna go tell the maintenance guys in the morning. It's an outside unit thing

I have the ceiling fans on and some windows cracked, but the added air circulation from the central fan is comfy. Comfy enough that in the future I need to make note that I don't need to run the AC like I'm accustomed to, heh

Edit: Well I did some quick googling and I see this is actually a bit debated. My situation's different 'cuz I just want some moving air, but people were asking if it's ok to leave the fan running with the AC on, so the fan's on and the compressor just kicks on and cools the already blowing air when needed. I saw someone quote that .85$ a kWh that it'd run you about 1.50$ a day and increases the humidity by a bit. I dunno if that matters, but if anyone has any comments on that...
