Miniatures (technically "collectible action figures") now with even more pew-pew-pew and vvvvvvvvvv-whom...or whatever sound lightsabers make.

Attacktix is a miniatures game produced by Hasbro. Each character stands about 3.5" tall, with the exception of megas. The mega figures are apparently not legal for tournament play. These figures stand taller and clearly are more costly in points.

The basic idea is each player has an X point army (ex: 200 point army) and a Y point back-ups. The objective is to literally knock over all the opposing figures via launcher attacks (picture old G.I. Joe missiles) and striker attacks (ex: lightsaber swings). Last man/woman/monster standing wins!

Each time you move a figure (a number deliniated on the top of the base) it will "tix". This changes a window on the bottom of the base. Anytime a figure of yours is killed you look at the base and if there is a white space in the window you immediately get the special ability. The abilities include ressurections of figures, free attacks, free moves, transformations, recruiting more figures (remember your backups?) etc.

The game is pretty simple and it is pretty adaptable to play capture the flag, king of the hill, or whatever other variation you would like. Further many people have taken to making customs for characters that don't currently exist.

So what characters DO exist you ask? Well:

Star Wars
Transformers
Marvel

Those are the only three currently, and there was a rumored G.I. Joe set to eventually be released. Star Wars has gotten the most attention and the most series so you can get characters from all 6 movies, whereas TF and Marvel haven't been so fortunate but there is still a fairly large variety of heroes and villians who can pew-pew-pew and thwack.

People still seem to be kicking on joeattacktix that's why it's the only one listed so far. The forums have a fairly active customs section as well. Active is also a relative term...

All that fun stuff being said...it seems as if the game has been "discontinued". Official word from Hasbro makes it seem as if it isn't completely dead and there is a possibility it to rise from the ashes but that can be said of many games. I have had some success getting figures off of ebay and they seem to still be plentiful. Also there are several sites online that seem to still carry singles. So does anyone play this game? Used to play this game? I got into it "late" when a friend of mine mentioned it since I hadn't seen it and it has gotten me back into miniature games. Searching the forums hasn't turned anything up other than a single post where someone mentions owning attacktix. Still my searching skills may be lacking since I am at work.
