Lots of you folks have not yet heard about the single awesomest fucking independent game still in development for the PC right now.
It's called
Mount & Blade, and I aim to let you fuckers know all about it, because it goddamn deserves it.
Mount and Blade is a seriously fucking great single-player Medieval simulation game. That's right medieval simulation, not
fantasy ponce-about. No elves. No fireballs. No dragons and dwarfs and orcs and dire badgers. Just valiant knights upon faithful steeds, brandishing cold steel and swift arrows, cutting down their enemies upon the field of battle.
And oh
lord how great the field of battle is.
This game is currently in beta, and is free to download. You can play up to, like, level six or so with the free download, or for twenty-five bucks you can basically pre-buy the game, get every update they make for it and save like fifteen bucks off of the release cost. Your payment supports the development of this game. And yes, it is absolutely fucking worth it.
The game is basically that you start off as an aspiring champion looking to make a name for yourself. Recruit an army by visiting towns and paying cash moneys. Hunt down river bandits to train yourself up. Enter the arena to make some extra scratch to get yourself some decent gear. Run quests for the local lords and kings to get in their favor, fight their enemies to gain some renown and swear fealty to your favorite dude. In exchange, get a village of your own. Build it up. Start raiding other villages. Siege fucking castles with huge ladders and shit while archers rain down death. Call out commands to your legion of minions.
Archers, hold this position! Infantry, advance ten paces! Cavalry, follow me and charge!
This game is so goddamn good. Seriously, so good. There is
nothing in the world more satisfying than chopping some poor crossbowman straight in the fucking
face with your axe as you gallop by on horseback.
As for replay value?
Huge. And did I mention mods? Because there's a buttload of mods. Add in more period-accurate weaponry and armor - no problem. Add in elves and faggoty dwarves and orcs riding wolves? Yeah they got that too. A mod based on warhammer? Yeah, totally in development. How about one where you're riding around in the remains of modern civilization after firearms and internal combustion mysteriously stop working? Yeah, they're working on that shit, too.
Seriously, what the hell are you waiting for?
Go get this fucking game.

Also Rank why did I stay up until 9 AM and make myself unwilling to go to my doctor's appointment
Also, if any of you played this in the past, you have to try the newest release (0.908, I think). They added so much fucking content it is a completely different game!
Also I hit a wall with my character I think, I've taken the castles of my enemy factions of orange and purple (I sided with teal) and I'm running around with 60 Hired Blades, and I own a village and a castle. I've been fucking with orange and green and I'm at -80 with both of them but I can't seige their castles, I don't know why.
Unfortunately my computer is probly too crappy to play.
But I will give it my damnedest.
Jordan of Elienor, Human Shaman
Yup. Basically they're slowly upping the price as they get closer to an official release.
yeah, you totally get updates, just as they promised.
Played it
Broke it
their code is weak
pretty much 24-7
What do I do now that my little army is basically awesome. I'm thinking about starting a Bandit Queen, someone who only captures to gain an army.
too bad their gameplay is fantastic
(their code has gotten a lot better, but it still ain't great - it's an indie game, you gotta play nice with it, and assuming you do, it is absolutely worth it)
Also, I have this and am satisfied.
"This is where I say something profound and you bow, so lets just skip to your part."

Edit: Oh hey those videos I made a while back are still here
I'm also looking for a good hack 'n slash RPG that I can play with my girlfriend off and on. Any suggestions from anyone?
Preferrably something that's not first-person as she gets motion sickness rather easily. I think I'll try Titan Quest, but I'd like something more RPG-y and less Diablo-y.
I remember playing it a little bit a long while back and it was fun.
i think its on xbox, but baulder's gate is a decent 2 player if you haven't played it yet
nothing like the thunk of a throwing axe hitting some poor sap right between the eyes
so proudly ride we, the 85th Crippled Horse Brigade

Dungeons and Dragons Heroes for the Xbox was a lot of fun, but very much a Gauntlet game with some RPG stuff added on like putting point to special attacks and weapon proficiencies.
Bel's right, Baldur's Gate is also a pretty good one to look at.
Yea the 2 Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance games are on Ps2 and Xbox and the 2 Everquest games that are the same style are on the ps2.
I'd skip the first Baldur's Gate but the other 3 are all awesome. If you have acess to a ps3 you can try Untold Legends Dark Kingdom but its meh at best.
rank can i cut off a dude's head and stop for a second so i can laugh at the blood shooting out that jerk's head?
nailing a dude between the eyes with a crossbow bolt as he charges uphill to watch his corpse flop its way down to the bottom is good times no matter how you look at it.
i have to say the gameplay videos are intriguing but the graphics seem a bit bland
actually, all things considered that works out pretty well for me
I was looking more for PC, but Baldur's Gate will work either way if memory serves me
what is the name of that mod that sorta looks a fight scene out of 300?
I don't wanna fund no terrorists
Is it really worth buying?
you get it for cheaper than release and you get free updates for the entire development cycle. And your money goes to fund the development of the game.
Try the demo out, and then realize that the gameplay goes into so much more depth as you advance in levels. Having your own keeps, maintaining your garrison, raiding villages, sieging castles, having huge fucking armies at your back. Seriously, it is so goddamn good.
The Baldur's Gate series for the PC is much, much different than it is for the consoles. BG on the PC is a straight-up classic RPG. The console version is very much a dungeon-crawling lootfest - you know the Marvel: Ultimate Alliance game? Think just like that but with swords and magic instead of Wolverine and Spider(hyphen)Man
I know you meant hyphen but this has me sitting here thinking about some spider hymens
