RALLY GAMES
Hey bitches let's talk about them. And none of that "OP didn't mention Obscure Rally Game X instant fail" bullshit. You like a Rally game that isn't in the OP then mention it yourself cuntcake. And for the love of god, don't fucking hotlink a mobygames image. If you hotlink an image from mobygames you will be labelled an absolute fucking retard and have to wallow in your own shame. I don't have a lot of experience (read: any) with PC Rally games, so if you guys know any then post that shit. For purposes of this thread, "Rally Games" will designate pretty much anything that lets you race something that has wheels on it on anything that isn't a road.
Also, all of these images are hosted at Imageshack, so if there are broken images it's either Imageshack is having a heartattack or your pathetic internet connection is too puny to handle all of the rally badassness that this thread is cramming down your pipes.
So, onward, starting with DiRT:
DiRT is pretty damn rad. It's much more arcade-y than previous games in the Colin McRae series, but it's all about really powerful vehicles driving really fast over dirt and tarmac and crashing into shit and looking damn fine while they do it. Here is a picture:
The general concensus amongst the internet is that the 360 version looks slightly better (which is strange, since the engine was co-developed by SCE), but the PS3 version has a slighty steadier framerate. There are a shitload of different cars, trucks, buggies, crossovers, and even some rally vans and a rally vehicle that looks like a goddamned garbage truck.
Here is another picture:
I got a used copy the day after release in perfect shape for $40. I rule. Then I had to sell my 360, so I can't play it anymore. I suck.
The game that inspired Codemasters (CMR devs) to get into making Rally games was the original Sega Rally. The arcade version was awesome (especially if you found one with a full tilt seat), and the home version on the Sega Saturn was awesome as well. Here is a picture of it:
Extremely arcade in it's presentation. Featuring three cars, four tracks, and the best Sega buttrock soundtrack ever
(Game Over Yeeeeeeaaaahhh!), Sega Rally introduced untold numbers of gamers into the joys of powersliding a $200,000 car through dirt and mud and rocks.
The sequel for the Dreamcast:
was a lot of fun as well, but suffered from a rollercoaster framerate that would shift between 30 and 60fps depending on which portion of the track you were on. In fact, you could say that playing it made your eyes want to
WinCE. Get it? Windows CE? Bad port? God I am so fucking funny sometimes.
Speaking of Sega Rally, Sega Rally 2006 on the PS2:
supposedly really blows, which is probably why Sega hasn't released it anywhere outside of Japan. But, if you get the special ed:
you also get an arcade-perfect port of the original Sega Rally 1995:
and that's pretty damned awesome. You can get it at Play-Asia, but I keep forgetting to buy it when I have money. Luckily, the method I use to boot importa is compatible with Sega Rally 1995, which is good because Sega Rally 2006 is a steaming pile of dogpickles from what I understand.
And oh yeah, the new Sega Rally:
is fucking awesome. It's fucking gorgeous, even on SD. Also, cars leave divits in the dirt and mud and it's awesome, because driving over and through the divots effects your speed and handling. I have the PSP version
which is fucking fantastic as well.
While we're here, let's look at a picture of Colin McRae Rally 2004 on the Xbox:
Pretty cool, huh? I'm trying to track down a copy of 2005. Is it worth it?
Also, the reason I'm making this thread again is because yesterday I scored a copy of RalliSport Challenge II for $5:
And so far it's fucking awesome. I am tearing up so much shit it's unbelievable. I was a dumbass and let Live lapse on my Xbox, so I can't download any of the new cars or game modes, which sucks, but sometime soon (likely after the move) I plan on getting set back up and can then revel in the all new SUV class.
Also, I'd like to mention the best Rally game ever, Rally Cross 2 for the PS1:
simply because it has a
fucking track editor.
The original Rally Cross (also for PS1)
is pretty decent, and is available over PSN for the PSP and PS3 for $6.
4X4 Evolution for the Dreamcast
is pretty rad, and is still playable online with PC, DC, and Mac clients. It's a lot of fun, but if you're playing with the DC version a lot of the maps are custom made for PC trucks that have been modded all to shit and back, so odds are you'll get stuck somewhere unless you're careful with your map/opponent selection.
Here's a picture I took in Gran Turismo 4's Photo Mode while rallying:
The Rally portion of the GT games is a lot of fun, because I like driving around super-powered Imprezas and WRXs almost as much as I like throwing on a Turbo, some dirt tires, and lifting the suspension of an '82 Nissan Sentra (or some other suitably shitty vehicle) and fucking around like nobody's business. Also, if they can get images that look like this:
from a PS2, then I shudder to think of how the next GT's Rally mode will look on the PS3. Speaking of, MotorStorm
was pretty decent, even though it was a much more arcade-style game. Basically a really muddy Burnout.
So, let's talk about Rally games I've mentioned, ones I haven't, stuff like that. Basically, let's just
Rally it up, bitches.
Posts
seriously though, that game fucking ruled.
edit*
really.
Microsoft needs to get on a sequel for the 360 though. I'd buy that shit in a heartbeat.

Seriously. If you like rally on your console give RallyX a try. You can use your car(It probably will not break) or bum a ride from one of the regulars or rent a car(As in from Hertz). Lots of fun on a Saturday.
Video does require less cleanup.
As for games I only have World Rally Championship for the PS2. I liked, for the time close to the real thing. And I played the rally sections of the Gran Tourismo games. They were OK, no damage kinda sucked but still fun.
Looking for a cheap copy of DIRT. That looks good and some freinds played and enjoyed it.
I need to get a new car.
