It's been a while since I've played this game but when the little carnival comes up I totally need to see "Super Dunk" on the videos.
Ah Super Dunk. I don't know how difficult it is to animate a basketball but apparently the person that worked on this mini-game thought the ball weighed 15 lbs, was made out of bricks and covered in quick binding adhesive. Also, they decided to call a free-throw shooting mini-game... Super Dunk. Which is just awesome. Awesome to the max.

Once I get to that point in the game, I'll do a minigames collection video.

Can't say I'm very good at any of them, but at least my terrible playing will be captured for posterity.

If there's any more stuff you guys want videos of, let me know.

In all honesty, 73 hours of Super Dunk would make my day tasty. But don't kill yourself doing that. Make sure you take breaks for water and voiding.

I will definitely cut down on the 'this is what happens' and replace it with 'this is what i think about what happens'. I've got a good story analysis in mind but it has to wait until later in the game. I think I'll throw in some interesting development facts and some more analysis of the differences between the PC and PSX versions.

Yeah, just add your own thoughts on certain events, as well as parts you didn't get or wonder more about. That way we have more opportunities to respond. For example:
Young Tifa: Isn't it hard to join SOLDIER?

Young Cloud: ...I probably won't be able to come back to this town for a while.

Tifa does something with her head. I think maybe she cries or makes a noise or something, but it's hard to tell.

It always looked to me that she was giggling here. I believe she admitted later on that she wasn't being serious at first with the whole "Cloud will come protect me" promise.
What do you guys think about the number of screenshots? More? Less? Replace screens with more video?

More screenshots would be ideal, as many as you can fit in.
Also, the Tifa boobs joke was just for that one part. I had to get it out of the way.

It could have waited until Disc 2's "in your face" FMV. O_o

I believe it was even confirmed somewhere that the boobs were the result of SE's first 3D efforts unable to nail down the human body. Even with the AC redesign, Tifa is still paying for it via fanart, doujins, and very very creepy internet postings. Not sure if the remake look from above will fully rectify things, but at least they won't be as much a distraction while you play it.

But then again it's never been just Tifa. Right now Rydia is the the focus of legions of fanart, and most of it isn't exactly worksafe. That's more disturbing in my opinion since she started out as a loli. :|

The real internet law is if it has any semblance of curves, it will be drawn naked (additional parts sold separately).

I just want to let you guys know...

As a local expert in the FF7 engine. You can covert the save game from the PC version to a PSX version and back again using this utility here So then when another wants to play, you can take the save from any platform and play it on the platform of choice.

Also when playing with the graphic mods, I'm not sure how stable the PC game is with those. They are largely experimental and to even say they are beta is a big stretch.

    Have fun!

They were already toned down for AC. Well not so much turned down but made so her entire body is supple and proportionate. The end result is a thousand times hotter than her old look.

The wall scrolls are indeed gorgeous, and they have them for every single character. You can see all of them here if you scroll down at the bottom.

I constantly wait every day for when/if these scrolls will be available for purchase, as I would make room for all four corners of my room to display every single one.

But as much as I prefer her AC design over everything else, I do agree with everyone how wonderful the oldschool Tifa image is, especially if it ends up being an official look into the remake. They kept the more realistic curves of her AC look, and managed to make her old outfit look natural.

LET'S PLAY FFVII PART 2 - CLOUD IS A TERRIBLE DONKEY KONG

When we last left our heroes they had just blown up the No. 1 Mako reactor and Cloud had a little reunion with his old friend Tifa. At that point it's sleepy time, so we'll pick up as Cloud wakes up.
    capture_03012008_234641.jpg
Tifa: Good morning! Cloud! Did you sleep well?
    Barret's snoring kept me up...
    -->Next to you, who wouldn't?

    :winky:

Tifa: I don't know what you mean.

Oh come on Tifa, you don't need to be all shy just because Barret's standing there.

Speaking of Barret, the first time I played FF7 I thought Barret and Tifa were married and Marlene was their kid. Later I learned that was not the case. It alleviated a lot of confusion.
    Tifa: I'm going this time.

Barret: Our target's the Sector 5 reactor. Head for the station first. I'll fill you in on the train.

So now we'll have Tifa in our party. Yay! I've always liked Tifa as a character. She's also pretty useful in battle. She starts off at level 5 though, so I'll have to do a bit of level grinding before we hit the boss.

Also, I originally thought FF7 was going to end up as this mission-based game where you run around and do missions with AVALANCHE around Midgar for the whole game. Boy was I wrong! Though as I understand it, Crisis Core has the whole mission thing going on, right?

Man, thinking back on the first time I played 7... I was so confused about everything.
Barret: Yo! Cloud! Before the next mission, I got somethin' I wanna ask you! I, uh... I don't really know how to use materia! I'll give you that materia we found. Just teach me how to use it!

    Cloud: ...sigh...
    OK, I'll explain it
    -->You wouldn't understand

Barret: So this is what makes them guys in SOLDIER so great, huh!? Ok. I'll ask Jessie again later. But you're in charge of the materia!

    capture_03012008_234709.jpg

Explaining it brings up the materia tutorial, but since I've played this game a hojillion times, I'm pretty comfortable with materia already. Now the Materia option is in the menu, and we can equip our new materia.

I always like the materia system. It was easy to understand and it fit well with the backstory of the world. I guess the only drawback was that it essentially made all your characters the same aside from their inherent stats and their limit breaks. If they could have figured out some way to make each character more unique in battle, it would have been perfect. As it is, 7's system is third behind Chrono Trigger's and FF10's for my favourite battle system.

The ability to swap materia is good if you're forced in to using an underleveled character. Just slap some high-leveled materia on them and they're not as useless.
Tifa: Cloud! I got a message from the Weapon Shop man upstairs. He has something he wants to give you. Don't forget!

This makes it seem like the weapons shop man lives above the bar. This is not the case. It is in a seperate building. Way to translate and make sense, guy(s) that did the translating.

    capture_03012008_234716.jpg
Tifa: Marlene, you watch the store while we're gone!

    Marlene: All right!! Good Luck.

Wait wait whaaaat... Marlene's like 8 years old. Tifa, as much as I like you as a character, what the fuck are you thinking leaving an 8 year old to watch a bar by herself in the middle of the slums? And Barret, you're her goddamned father! What the fuck man!?

Marlene's probably having crazy drunken blood orgies while you're gone! Bet 5 bucks she ends up with cirrhosis before she's 12.

    capture_23032008_013545.jpg

In any case, we'll go to the weapons shop to buy everyone an iron bangle and sell the bronze ones. We can't sell Barret's gatling gun, which is the case with everyone's original weapons if I remember correctly. Upstairs is the beginner's hall, where all the tutorials are. If you go around and talk to the people in there, the tutorials are set up as Cloud explaining everything to them, which I thought was a nice touch. It makes Cloud seem a lot more battle-hardened and experienced instead of the typical Noob RPG Character. I also find that it sets him apart from the player a bit. In a lot of games, the developers try to go for 'this character is a representation of YOU in the game!!', but to me, Cloud stands out as more of his own person.

    capture_23032008_013419.jpg

We don't need to listen to any of these tutorials, but we can pick up an All materia and an ether. All materia is super useful, and we'll be slotting that alongside the Restore materia that we picked up in the first part.

Also, we'll stop by the other shop and pick up an extra phoenix down, a couple potions and a Fire materia. I never like having fewer phoenix downs than there are members in the party.

    capture_23032008_013619.jpg

So now that our equips are all sorted, we can get on the train. The rest of AVALANCHE runs ahead of us.

    capture_23032008_013636.jpg
Barret: YO! This ain't no private car!! So split up!!

Dude in a Suit: ...Hoodlums again. God, don't I just have all the luck?

Barret: You say sumthin'? I said, 'you say sumthin'!?

    capture_23032008_013655.jpg

Barret's a baaaad dude, ain't he? I always thought he was a bit uh.. conspicuous... given he was riding on a Shinra-owned train filled with Shinra guards to a Shinra-owned Mako reactor to go blow it up. You'd think he'd figure out that laying low = identity kept secret. But, no, he's gotta go around and start trouble.
Barret: Now look at that!! It got empty alluva sudden. What's goin' on?

    Dude in a Suit: DAMN!!

    damn.jpg?
Dude in a Suit: It... it's empty because of... g, guys like you... [Barret punches the wall of the train car?] YYY...YIPES!! You... you've seen the news, right? AVALANCHE says there'll be more bombings. Only devoted employees like me would go to Midgar on a day like today.

    Barret: You work for Shinra?

Shinra Manager: I won't give in to violence and...

    Tifa: Barret!!

    Barret: &$#%!! You lucky ^$#^$.!

    capture_23032008_013709.jpg

Okay, seriously, Barret is the worst leader of a secret terrorist group. He just threatened an employee of the corporation he's fighting against, giving them a clear view of his face, AND now that employee knows Barret's name. Basically a retarded cat could find Barret now. gj. Also his 8 year old daughter is alone watching a bar in the midde of the slums WHAT IS UP WITH THAT
Cloud: So, what are we gonna do now?

Barret: @#$%! The hell you so calm? You're bustin' up my rhythm!

Tifa: Looks like they just finished connecting the cars. We're finally leaving.

Cloud: So what's our next target?

Barret: Hah! Listen to Mr. Serious-about-his-work! All right... I'll tell ya! Jessie's probably already told you, but there's a security check point at the top plate. It's an ID scan system checkin' all the trains.

Tifa: Which Shinra is very proud of.

Barret: We can't use our fake IDs any more...

Announcement: Good Morning, and welcome to Midgar lines. Arrival time at Sector 4 station is 11:45.

Tifa: That means we've only got three more minutes to the ID Check point.

Barret: All right, in three minutes, we're jumpin' off this train. Got it!?

I remember being all nervous about this when I first played the game. I had still not adjusted to the concept of cutscenes, and thought that I had to do something to make Cloud jump off that the right time or else zomg game over man!

    capture_23032008_013825.jpg
Tifa: Cloud, come over here! Let's look at the Railway Map Monitor.

Is this how girls hit on Cloud or something? He might be a bit of a dork but come on, railway monitors?

Tifa: Hmm, it looks like you've seen this already... It's all right. Come a little closer.

    :winky:

    Oshi-- sirens!

Tifa: That's odd, the ID Check Point was supposed to be further down.

Announcement: Type A Security Alert!! Unidentified passengers confirmed... A search of all cars will be conducted! Repeat! Type A Security Alert!!

    Tifa: What's happening?

    Barret: What's goin' on?

Jessie: We're in trouble. I'll explain later. Hurry! Get to the next car.

    Barret: @#$%! Someone blew it...

    capture_23032008_013845.jpg

So the train is being locked down car by car and we have 15 seconds to move up to the next car. There's a douchebag in the third car that steals gil from you when you walk by him. I've never been able to avoid him, so I don't know if it's possible. Also, I just noticed now while playing this part, but when you first get in to car 3 and you don't have control yet, there's some old man fondling Jessie. He runs to the front of the car, and then she runs up and punches him out before she moves to the next car. Creepy.

    capture_23032008_013952.jpg

There are a bunch of naked, unconscious people in the next car... what D:

Oh, we find out that they were KOed by Biggs, Wedge and Jessie who then stole their clothes. It's like a Hitman game!
Barret: All right!! We made it!! Yo!! This way!! Let's go!! We're gonna dive outta here!!

what is with all the double exclamation points, Barret!! we get the point

    Tifa: ...Scary...huh.

Cloud: Too late for that now. Why'd you come along anyway?

    Tifa: Because...

Barret: Hey you two! There ain't no time for that!

Tifa: All right!! I've made up my mind! Watch closely. I'm gonna jump!

    Cloud's watching closely all right....

Tifa jumps out of the train.

Cloud: [to Barret] You don't mind if I go first?

Barret: A leader always stays till the end. Don't worry 'bout me, just go!

This is not a ship Barret and you are not a captain!

Barret: Yo! Don't go gettin' your spikey-ass hurt! It's only the beginnin' of the mission!

    Cloud jumps.

Barret: [to Biggs, Wedge and Jessie] Later! You take care of the rest!

Here we get to see a little more of Tifa's character. Cloud kinda acts like a jerk with the way he questions why she'd come along. I think, if the circumstances were different (and Barret didn't cut them off), she woulda given Cloud a piece of her mind on that one. She comes across as a character who really tries hard and doesn't like having her abilities doubted.

So anyway, our crew ends up in the tunnel.

    capture_23032008_014109.jpg
Barret: Good, so far everything's going as planned.

What? Everything is going the exact opposite of as planned.

Barret: Don't let your guard down till we get to the Sector 5 Reactor. Biggs, Wedge and Jessie got everything ready for us. So MOVE it. The reactor's just down this tunnel!

    capture_23032008_153113.jpg

If you go the opposite way, through about 5 identical screens, you'll reach a Shinra guard post where they'll exclaim "You're the AVALANCHE!" and attack you. I didn't get an opportunity to go through the battle because the game crashed. *shakes fist*

    capture_23032008_014142.jpg
Cloud: Those light beams are the Shinra's security sensors. We can't go any further.

    the Shinra's, eh?

Since the only option appears to be this hole, Cloud inspects it.

Barret: That's one damn tiny hole. You tellin' me to squeeze into that to get under the Plate? No way!

so much opportunity for innuendo but no dammit I'm not going to take it.

Barret: Yo, Cloud, what're we gonna do?
    Look inside
    -->Go down
    Don't go

Barret: But damn, man, that thing gives me the chills.

I remember running around, trying to find an alternate route the first time I played this because I thought Barret's objection meant I shouldn't go down there. Then I learned that Barret's a big wuss and complains a lot.

And people call Cloud a pussy...

    capture_23032008_014216.jpg

So, not much to say about the reactor interior. We pick up an ether in what looks like an air duct, and there are a lot of ladders. We'll see Wedge, Jessie and Biggs (in that order) scattered throughout the area. Jessie explains that she screwed up the ID cards, and we'll take this opportunity to grab a potion, a tent, level up a bit, and save.

    capture_23032008_015107.jpg

I don't get how they all get in there so fast, because they're stuck on the train going away from Cloud, Barret and Tifa, and it pretty much takes 5 minutes to get under the plate to the reactor area, and then all of a sudden they appear. There is no teleport materia, dammit.

I had to split the video up into 2 parts due to compression and uploading issues. I didn't plan it that way while filming.

    VIDEO - PART A - I HATE ANIME FANGIRLS
VIDEO - PART B - CLOUD IS A TERRIBLE DONKEY KONG

I say in the second video that there's going to be more in the post after it, but I have decided to leave that for the next update because it's late and I want to get this posted now and I haven't played through and gotten screenshots of that part yet.

    tl;dr

The crew sets off to blow up the No. 5 Mako reactor. They plant the bomb, but things go awry! They are attacked by a Shinra techno-soldier named Airbuster. They soundly defeat Airbuster, but the explosion of the robot sends Cloud tumbling from the upper plate and.. WHAM! Through the roof of a church. He meets the Flower Girl from part 1, and it turns out her name is Aeris and she is being pursued by the Turks, one of Shinra's special groups. They call her 'the Ancient' for some reason, even though she looks about 20. Cloud helps her evade capture, and the duo set off for her house....

Great, excellent, good job! It's been a few years since I've played FF7, it's good to see it being done by someone who knows what is up.

I enjoyed your little Aeris/Aerith rant. She'll always be Aeris to me too.

Have you reached the part with the harem?
Cause you got to do the extra things so he can get picked over Tifa and Aeris

That'll probably be in the next bit. Cloud just met Aeris.

Am I the only one who prefers the original Tifa design? I mean I know in the CG cutscenes it's pretty stupid, but looking at her actual drawings and her model in battles and stuff, I prefer the old design over the "toned down" one.

Once you experience a real woman, you'll quickly realize that oversize tits is not something that is desirable.

Not to mention that Tifa old design had tits that were bigger then her head.

But of course! Assuming the PC controls don't fuck me up on the squats minigame. I might video that part because I can run through it pretty quickly, and there are so many opportunities for hilarity.

    As for you music problem.

I havent mess with the PC version of FF7 for a long long time, but there was a mod that allows you to play the PSX music instead of the horrible midi version, which I believe you already have. It took me awhile to get it to work correctly, but I think you have to change some of your sound settings to something obscure and weird. My only problem with it is that it doesnt repeat once the song has ended.

There's so many thing wrong with the PC version of VII that I gave up on it and sadly (like most 3D PS games) the graphics aged so badly that I find it hard to go back to play FFVII again. It's a real shame because the PS is when Squaresoft truly shine with Brave Fencer Musashi, Parasite Eve, Xenogears (though amazingly, at about disc 2, Squaresoft took a turn to the worst and start churning out games that I hate), Threads of Fate, and so on.

Seeing the updated graphics and game play on Crisis Core makes me want to buy a PSP, but FFVII is dead. There's nothing more to tell and it's becoming obvious that SquareEnix is just milking a dead horse.

Okay, the "real woman" crack wasn't neccesary at all. Don't be an asshole.

I wasn't saying OMG BOOBZ, I was saying I prefer the old design to the new one. I prefer the slightly anime look to the realistic look. The AC design just looks very dull, IMO.

As far as the BEWBZ go, what's wrong with the actual ingame model on the FF7 design anyway? Like, the one you see in battles? She's got a big rack, but it's not nearly as bad as people make it out to me. Hell, Lulu in FFX and the DOA girls are a hell of a lot worse. Aside from the ridiculous mammaries in the CG cutscenes, Tifa's not so bad.

She looked more upbeat in the pre AC design, i think she looks a little too sullen and reserved in the AC style

I remember this was the first game I ever played on PS.

I named the main character Zack, after myself.

Cue total confusion for the second half of the story.

    Oh man. That's totally awesome.

I had a friend who named Red XIII Nanaki.

    Totally useless.

Reznik, thank you so much for being a girl who likes FF7 without being a total creepy slash fangirl. There aren't a lot like you, and you're a credit to your gender.

(same criticism goes to almost every girl who's way into Ace Attorney)

Oh, and saving up your Limit Breaks for long periods of time isn't such a great idea.

Why? Because you build up your LBs by using them. The second one of each level is earned by using the first one a certain number of times, and the first one in each level is earned by the number of enemies you kill (counting only when you deliver the final hit) with that particular character. Thing is, you really want to build up to the later Breaks as quickly as possible... especially for a certain someone whose shore leave into your party gets cancelled early, if you catch my drift.

Yeah, I've just been saving them when I know there's a boss coming up soon. I use them up on those long stretches in between bosses.

Honestly it isnt even worth it unless you really, really, really, enjoy achieving 130% of your games.
