A few questions for Macbook owners who use windows...
Hey, thinking of getting a macbook this weekend. All my programs are still windows, so I'll be slowly changing over.
My questions:
On my pc laptop, I have windows installed on its own 10 gig partition, I install programs and keep files on a second partition. With a mac, does the OS need to be on a seperate partition from the programs (is this even possible?)
Also, if I have images/video files etc on a secondary windows partition, can I open it from the mac OS and vice versa? Is there such a thing as a "mixed format" or shared partition?
Ipods: If I have itunes installed on both the windows and mac side of things, will it only be able to synch with one or the other?
I havent used a mac since 9th grade, and rummaging through mac forums has been daunting and fruitless. Thanks for any info!
I don't own a Mac, but I dual-boot into Linux, and some of these issues are similar there.
The file systems used by OS X and modern Windows are not the same, so I think Macs can only read NTFS partitions, but cannot write to them. Almost assuredly there is a way to mount an NTFS drive/partition so OS X can read and write to it (in linux, it would be ntfs-3g).
I think the only options for making HFS (OS X's file system) readable and writable from windows are purchasing a program.
I guess I shouldn't be answering this since I don't use Macs - I just know this stuff secondhand from being around friends who do.

You would probably get a better response if you posted the questions in the Mac thread (in the Tech subforum).
I'll have a go at answering them anyway.

With Macs, OS X and user files are on the same partition by default. There's not really much reason to try to put them on separate partitions. I'm sure it would be possible if you tried, but there's no need to.
With Windows on your Mac, you can do what you want. If you want a second partition for Windows, then I'm sure it won't be too much hassle to create one.

FAT32 partitions can be fully used by both Windows and OS X. NTFS partitions can also be read by OS X, but they are read-only.
If you want a shared partition, it's best if it is FAT32.
Personally, I just use an external drive (formatted FAT32) for shared files.

If you format the iPod with Windows iTunes, it will be usable with both the Mac and Windows versions of iTunes (but it won't be readable with Windows iTunes if you format it on the Mac).

Didn't realize there was a mac subforum, explains why I didnt find much here when I searched!
