As I've been on the web, I've seen some screen shots with people's HD, folder, and application symbols different (see below). I would like any help on how to do this without screwing my computer over. Please and Thanks.

Get Info on the HD, and then drag the pic you want over the HD icon in the info window. I don't know if there's a simple way to change it back, but you can always just find the HD icon and drag it back.

There's probably a certain file type you have to use (I think you can use .png), but I'm not really sure. I might look into it a bit later.

Usually changing the HD, finder and other things won't work. Use the application called Candybar to do that. After you mess with a few things it'll want you to pay money but it will still let you alter the system items (finder, HD, preferences, etc).

Not true; the HD can be changed at whim. I've not tried it, but I see no reason why one cannot screwing with the other ones. It's folders and system icons that will not work, which is what Candybar does.

Use LiteIcon instead of Candybar, since Candybar is like $30 while LiteIcon is free and also recognizes iContainers. Also, go to IconFactory to download these iContainers, which are sets of icons which replace your standard icons, and then dump them into LiteIcon. You'll have to log out and log back in for the changes to take effect.
