The new forums will be named Coin Return (based on the most recent vote)! You can check on the status and timeline of the transition to the new forums here.
The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Is the new datacenter essentially a move to restore system stability?
or is it also a system upgrade as well...ie are we possibly going to see improved performance across the board?
Yes, the stability and performance problems were not something we could address due to space constraints. For the first week the forums will be running off of two servers. Once we have migrated off of the Santa Clara servers, we will be shipping the old servers to LA where they will resume serving the forums in addition to the new equipment.
How big is the price difference between holding the servers at a farm in Santa Clara and one in LA? Just wondering, my brother works at one, and I think he'd be kind of interested.
Hey, I don't know if this has any relevance to the recent downtime, but is the main, non-forums part of the site working for anyone else? I haven't been able to reliably access it since like Wednesday.
Some celestial event. No - no words. No words to describe it. Poetry! They should have sent a poet. So beautiful. So beautiful... I had no idea.
What is, "Contact", Alex?
Seriously, Ramius, I'm shocked someone geeky enough to be adminning this forum isn't able to quote 2001: A Space Odyssey from memory, let alone recognize it. :P

Looks like you won't be making it to Final Jeapordy this time, Faggy Toes.

None, it's just Tube running in a giant hamster wheel.
No but seriously, good luck with the move; we all appreciate the work you guys put into this.
Can you link it up to other colonies to form a supercomputer?
Yeah, but you really can't overclock them ever, they get stuck in a race condition and loop.

Given, no one is here yet... But hey, pages load (quickly) and all the stuff is here, just like before it went down.
Edit: Search works and is fast!
When the old database server arrives, I'll set it as the dedicated searching server and life will be good.
The forums are downright.....snappy now.
Oh right, we're in L.A. now
Perhaps Alpha should stop cheating and using PA hardware to run Folding@Home.

Also, I live like 20 minutes from St. Louis.
I should at least buy you dinner.
Any PAers welcome... that can buy their own.
