jack bristow is an interesting example of a game theorist in fiction because it's not just some throwaway trait they mention to say "jack's really smart"
it actively influences the way he behaves, the operations he plans, etc. he's actually the best character on the show, and the way he is written (and victor garber's calm performance) is a lot of it

problem was that the A Beautiful Mind movie is basically fiction.
it's inspired by Nash's actual life but it's been changed and things have been omitted or added so much that it might as well be some created character with the same name.

i saw the trailer and thought this was going to be a film where it was like "hahaha superheroes are so stupid and superhero movies are dumb let's rip into them!"
like, you know, most parody movies in American film.
you can see the parody come from a mile away, announcing it's arrival decades before it arrives with fireworks in glistening neon. it arrives on a dead horse that is still being beaten.
you don't need to watch a trailer to guess what happens in the village
the title and the director's initials are enough
general M. Night shamadingdong movie spoilers i guess
i was really happy when signs had real aliens. i went into seeing the village without seeing the previews, and guessed way early on what was going on, and i was so sad, i hate when its all fake
Same here. Good movie overall I think, but Shymalan seems to struggle with endings. Unbreakable and Sixth Sense were both really good though. Both also starred Bruce Willis as the central character. Coincidence?
In Signs:
: Seeing the alien couldn't help but be less interesting than not knowing what it looked like. And the final part, where he remembers the death of his wife and how apparently her last words had significance when fighting off an alien... that was just a little odd.
I never really actively figure out where things will come next because I don't really care enough, but yeah, very few things in movies are true surprises anymore.
I very, very, very rarely laugh out loud at jokes in television shows or movies because as soon as the setup is established my mind jumps straight to the punchline. Not because my brain is so amazing but more the formulaic thing. I think I've laughed out loud at like...less than 15 jokes I've seen on tv/film. Apparently I'm not the most fun guy to watch a comedy with because I am pretty deadpan (or just kinda sorta grinning a little) the whole time. at least I'm not "snarky comment guy who thinks he is funnier than the movie".
when i was watching the prestige, about 1/4 of the way into the film i realized the big reveal of it
but that was because, 1/4 of the way into the film, i realized the reason everything was so familiar to me was i had read the novel several years earlier

That is because we have more squishy parts
The same people who aren't hot for Sheri
Baking bread and laying bricks.
I have been asked to come finish a friend's wall because apparently I am good at laying curves :winky:
daaaaaaaaaaamn woman
oh man. well, if it was unanimous i guess that's just how it is.

I love those
I could lay bricks all day for 40 years easily
you have a figurative penis, it's the damnedest thing
game theory is pretty awesome though
it doesn't come up very often in fiction directly, although much of the plots of most epsionage and political thrillers are pretty typical games
i'm trying to think of specific fictional characters who are game theorists
i'm coming up uh... jack bristow from alias? yeah.
although they don't really play up the game theory aspect of his work
that is a great movie, i should rent it, i haven't seen it in ages

innocent civilians look in astonishment to a shape streaking across the sky, as it fades to black. complete silence.
white impact font on a black background fades in: WE DIDN'T KNOW WHERE THEY CAME FROM
shot of shape crashing to earth in complete silence
WE DON'T KNOW WHY THEY CAME
innocent civilians investigate crash site in the woods, with torches and dogs
WE DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY CAME FOR
shadows streak over innocent civilians, and on a teen couple making out
ALL WE KNOW
sudden music rises to crescendo as civilians run from slaughter
IS THAT THEY ARE GOING
TO KILL
US
ALL
20 seconds of trailer friendly quotes, and people being killed, the end
i thought it was going to basically be making fun of superheroes directly (like Superhero Movie)
turns out, no, it's sharply written satire. glad i was wrong on that one!
I think we have to break up.
as in, insultingly?
how do you mean
yeah pretty much

yes, exactly.
he said it was shittier than meet the spartans
so
wrap your head around that
pass
Once again, for the record, Meet the Spartans was not that bad.
Not good, by any means, but not awful.
Also, where's Pooro these days?
But if you are going to spend the entire movie doing it it does get a tad tired.
Satans..... hints.....
