That ability really saved my hide at least twice in one skirmish (Steel Talons vs. Reaper), when they snuck up on my bases and blew up my harvesters. One drive over a vacant blue Tib field and the harvesters were replaced and my economy saved.
I even got the MARV to star level that game - mainly because of the two Hexapods it (and its Mammoth escort) killed.
Ah, fun times...
And yeah, I don't have too many good experiences (or too many experiences period) with the Redeemer, as it very nearly died to a bunch of lowly Disintegrator squads. It wasn't upgraded, though.
MARV is just a better unit...I think we'll see a patch for the redeemer to harvest as well. I threw a sabotuer in the redeemer last night, it was okay with self-repair, nothing special. Maybe with full upgrades.
Rage generator is supposed to be the big sell with the redeemer, but I don't know...it's good when you sorta sneak up on a big force, or they have infantry spam waiting for you.

I doubt it will get harvesting abilities, I don't think they want units which are clones of each other.
Also I found a bug in Conquer the world mode. I accidently found out that Marvs, redeemers, etc. keep the infantry you put in them from the map before, but you can stack new ones inside in the next map. I know this works with MARV dunno about the others. I kept putting two snipers 2 rockets in one and before I knew it, there were like 6 rockets and 6 snipers. So tested it out specifically next map with 4 zone raiders and oh freak, that thing hit max veterency and owned face.
I usually play Black Hand. Black Disciples really early = an unstoppable wave of men splooging flames, rockets, and bullets at everything. Of course, if they stop that.. you're kinda boned until you get Purifiers (which are amazing) but take a long time to tech to.
Purifiers. I don't even use their laser. I keep them walking forward and toasting everything with blue flames.
I don't mind missing out on the extra beam upgrade or the various stealth upgrades.

Can't you just give avatars the flamethrower upgrade or is it inferior to purifiers still?
Yes you can give regular Avatars a flamethrower, but you have to build and sacrifice a flame tank for that, and you can't get the Purifying Flame upgrade which is ridiculously powerful.
Man, I don't know what it was that posessed the developers when they developed the Avatar. The concept is sound but once you need to upgrade 6+ Avatars things get just bogged down in micromanagment of the wrong kind. It would have been better if there was an upgrade path for the Avatars instead of having to push out sacrificial units that will drain you of even more funds.
So aside from World Conquest mode being slow there appear to be some annoying bugs. Like invisible invulnerable enemies that prevent you from winning a skirmish. In another window right now three carriers and the ion storms they spawned are attacking something in the bottom left corner of the map. I know they're attacking something because I only gave them a move order. Thing is there's nothing there.
There were some scorpion tanks that were half way off the map but while they were close to the spot my carriers are trying to obliderate they were definately not in that spot. I'm gonna give it a little more time and send my carriers on a search and destory mission over the rest of the map (again) but for now it's looking like I'm going to lose 10 carriers that are all rank 2-3 veteran status because I have to surrender to finish the battle.
