So shift work?

I've started looking for a summer job/fulltime position cause college didn't really work out like I'd planned!

How would you rate shift work?

The earliest I'd be starting would be 6am and the latests I'd start would be 11pm.

The job itself would be in the airport and I think I'd just be 1 of those trolley guys. My friend worked this job but got fired cause he was a total slacker. He said it was a decent job and the pay is good. You get €10.50 an hour and 20% shift allowance and weekend time too.

I'm also applying for jobs in banks and what not but I have experience in those environments and know what to expect. Just want to see how anybody who's done shifts rates it.

I had a swing shift job for a summer during college. It was frickin' hard. Every two weeks the start time would change from 7am to 3pm to 11 pm. The 7 and 3 shifts were ok but the 11 really took a toll on me. It was very difficult getting a good sleep in the middle of the day. The only upside was a bit more money for the 11pm shift.

Was that the only problem you found with the work though? The ever changing sleep patterns?

I can sleep pretty much anytime if I'm tired.

Well, the job wasn't the greatest. I'd drive a fork lift and load trucks, handle super hot bread pans or pull busted loaves of bread from the slicers (think of jig saws with a lot blades a quarter inch apart, that never stopped). The work was ok for a summer job, but nothing I'd want to do for a living. So yeah, the changing sleep patterns were the worst part.

I am in the military and I switch hours all the time. Switching shifts sucks, but after a day or two you are use to it. Working isn't too bad though, if you sleep as soon as you get home you wake up right as everyone who works a day shift job is getting up. None of the shifts are too bad, it all depends on your personal life. I have trouble falling asleep the first few nights, I usually keep staying up to the time I would normally fall asleep at. To fix that though I will try and stay up an entire day, go to work and then sleep on the new schedule.
