Fatal Frame 4 - What Platform?

sushiboysushiboy Registered User regular
edited April 2008 in Games and Technology
So, there seems to be some confusion out there as to what platform FF4 will be on. Some sources say Wii, others say PS3. It seems like most pages say Wii for sure and PS3 is a rumor at this point, but what am I to believe with so much conflicting info? Anyone have a reputable source that would give a definite answer?

    Grasshopper? Seriously? Fuck me!

Now if only I had Fatal Frame 3. I was waiting for the Xbox version which was obviously the wrong thing to do and now the PS2 version is $$$$.

    Truth.
I have no idea what Fatal Frame is, and I don't even think it matters at this point.

I've read about a hundred sources stating Wii, Grasshopper. And ... none... saying PS3..

A quick Google brings up said hundreds of sources.

Fatal Frame is a pants shitting scary ass game where you play as a individuals with the ability to exorcise ghosts with a special old antique camera.

Of course the ghosts are oftentimes invisible and can only be seen with the camera.
And obviously the best way to exorcise the ghosts is to take a shot at the ghost when it's only a few inches between you and the ghost - as you're looking through the camera.

Basically, imagine playing the Ring, the Grudge, and the Eye (original Hong Kong version) all combined together.
    Some trailers:

The game has good storylines with interesting protagonists and since your main weapon is the camera, there's never a point in the game where you can feel safe.
Whereas Resident Evil uses shock-horror and monsters for scares, Fatal Frame uses the mood, setting, atmosphere, and constant unsettling fear of ghosts especially because you have to be extra close to a ghost to exorcise it.

Forgot to add: the game also uses stylized approach in its graphics, so it's actually a good fit for both Grasshopper and Wii.

Fatal Frame is quite possibly one of the last true survival horror type games. With Resident Evil going the way of the action game since RE 4, Fatal Frame and Silent Hill are the only two games I can think of that retain the original style. I just hope Grasshopper doesn't make it weird. If Fatal Frame moves away from survival horror I dont know where I'll get my fix anymore.

I think this just jumped into my #1 most anticipated title slot.

In a way it actually makes the most perfect sense for the Wii since this is the party style survival horror game - no one dares to play it alone.

Fatal Frame is one of the best games out there.

My old roommate would not play that game at night. I have another friend who is the same way. It is a scary game, but I think the "no playing at night" rule is a bit much. haha.

The problem with Fatal Frame 2 at least is that unless you are playing on the very high difficulty, you will find that the game can't scare you in 99% of the parts when you are playing. I say this because you will soon discover that you have tons of film (i.e. ammo), tons of healing items, and unless the enemy is invincible and can kill you in one hit (this DOES happen), for the most part you are never in any real danger. The rumble which gives you enemy sensing just sort of adds to the "okay, I know you're there, now come out so I can KILL YOU" feeling; I'm so loaded that I'm just waiting for them to pop out so that I can blast them back to hell, rather than being "omg omg ghosts omg omg". I'm a little girl in a haunted village! I shouldn't feel like a total badass! Not without an abundance of unreasonably large firearms, anyway.

I heard this changes when you are in the higher difficulties and you have to land perfect shots in order to kill things without shooting them a hojillion times, and your durability goes way down and healing items aren't bountiful, but that's not exactly the same kind of scary that you might be wanting.

The cutscenes can still be disturbing, though.

    Back to Fatal Frame 4:
I wonder if there will be Moai heads.

I played Fatal Frame 2 and thought it was pretty meh... I mean, the whole "kill ghosts with your camera" mechanic was a bit unwieldy, and sorta boring.

But, Grasshopper's involvement has gotten my interest.

Oh dear God. I own 1, 2 and 3, though I've only actually finished 1. But Grasshopper? Pushed me towards purchasing a Wii for sure.

EDIT: Just to note, for the benefit of any other Brits who haven't heard of the franchise yet, it's called Project Zero over here. Not sure why.

Psst. GTA has always been on Xbox, and PC also. DMC 3 got a PC port too. ;)

I've never played a Fatal Frame game, but Grasshopper's involvement with the new Wii one means I'll be starting off with 4. I might look into the earlier ones if I can manage to find a copy.

Not to mention that the first two Fatal Frame games were also on the Xbox.

I can't play Fatal Frame games on my own. I have a couple friends with whom I play, though, and we just recently played through FF3. The female in our group can affect a wonderfully scary, creepy-girl voice and will occasionally, without provocation, say something behind you, like, "It's raining again." Or sometimes she'll just softly hum the "sleep priestess, lie in peace" song. D:

Haha, I just laughed out loud reading that for some reason..

Ever since they announced this for the Wii, I went out that same day and bought one. Not for SMG, Zelda, or Metroid, but for freaking Fatal Frame, the one game that I can't play for more than 30 minutes to an hour at a time since it's so creepy and makes me want to sleep with the lights on at night. Cannot wait for this to hit.
