Wasn't one of the Yu Gi Oh series' meant to basically be a parody of the whole "card battling" genre?

Except someone on this side of the pacific was a giant retard and decided to make the dub straight?
You might be thinking Duel Masters maybe?

I actually hate myself for knowing that

Bicycle accessories. Play cards while riding bikes!

Looks like you're not far off when it comes to Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's and their special Duel Disc.
    Wikipedia wrote:
The latest Yu-Gi-Oh series features the "Riding Duels". An all new style of duel in which the players ride the D-Wheels, motorcycles with Duel equipment. Contrary to the previous series, dueling with D-Wheels contain some special rules. First, the duel is entirely played using the field magic "Speed World". Second, only magic cards designed to work into this field are allowed in the duel. Each magic needs a number of "Speed Counters" to be activated. Each duelist starts with zero speed counters and its number increase as the duel progresses, but a player can reduce the number of opponent's counters by dealing direct damage to its LP. When a winner is decided, the D-Wheel of the defeated duelist shuts down automatically.

The D-Wheel features the card platform, sitting in front of the duelist, a stand for the cards in hand, which allows the duelist to ride with one hand while using the cards with the other, and a compartiment for the deck located in the player's wrist. Cards sent to graveyard are inserted in a slot also located in front of the duelist.

In some occassions, the card platform can be detached from the D-Wheel and function as a Duel Disk.

That is easily the most obtuse and retarded gimmick of anything ever.

This is true. It wouldn't be Yu-Gi-Oh without retarded and obtuse gimmicks.

hard to say with a single episode

but its a nicely drawn/animated animeh dealing with a female pilot (ww1-2 era prop planes), and her best friend who is some book smart dude who also is apparently a good shot (I can see him being a rear gunner later maybe or something).

two waring nations, one item to unite them all, adventure etc

That's the one by the Kino's Travels team, right? Looks worth watching one or two episodes at least.

The animated television series Allison & Lillia is directed by Masayoshi Nishida, and produced by Madhouse in collaboration with Tezuka Productions, along with Geneon which is in charge of music. The anime shares its title as a combination with the light novel series Allison, and Lillia and Treize, which the anime is based on.

whatever any of that means. all I know is that I liked it, and I think most anime is shit
