Trauma Center 2 DS unveiled; buy stock in Hori screen protectors
Wanna-be surgeons rejoice! Atlus is bringing Trauma Center back to the Nintendo DS. The sequel has Dr. Stiles and nurse Angie tackle the effects and "unanswered mysteries" of the GUILT Virus from the prequel. There's new characters as well, along with a tighter tools that will hopefully address the bitching and moaning incurred by the original game's tool scheme. The game is penciled in for an August release in Japan.
Hell yeah! Trauma Center: New Blood is sitting woefully unfinished on my backlog, but I've always been a fan of the series and I'm stoked that they're continuing with a DS version as well, since the DS and Wii versions control the same in theory but play out very differently in practice. I believe a thread on GAF mentioned that there will be an Easy difficulty level as well.
Easy mode also? Hope that means they don't ease up on the hard difficulty. One of the things I enjoyed about the first game on the DS was the brutal difficulty in the later levels.

Have you played the Wii games? Trust me, Hard is still insane.
easy mode is for people like me (you know, mere mortals) that don't want to have an aneurism from playing...
Also: AHHHH SAVATO! FUCK!

Man, I just couldn't get through that last set of levels (the Original Sin or whatever, kids with the super-GUILT). I got through a couple, but barely. They were just too hard.
I don't think letting a kid get sliced up so much that they can't be sliced up any more is a proper surgical procedure.

I quit the game so many times. Then I came back.
I actually got through those last seven levels, and I had that rush of "OH MY GOD I BEAT THIS RIDICULOUS GAME!"
No.
No.
Those aren't the last levels. Of the game proper, sure. But not the last.
There are seven final levels that you can select from the mission selector once you've defeated the game: the X-series. The progenitor species of GUILT, created by Adam himself. The third and final difficulty of each.
I tried Kyriaki Extreme once, and quit. Never picked it up again.
The X Missions do not exist. They just don't. Just close your eyes and move along.
What I liked about Second Opinion is that, while it's mostly a reimagination of the same operations in Under the Knife, in the final chapter instead of having to fight the Original Sins, you actually face brand new operations where multiple GUILT strains attack at once. Fighting off Kyriaki and Pempti at the same time! So I remain optimistic that a DS sequel will have a whole new slew of operations instead of a lot of the retreading Under the Knife had.
I think the biggest problem is that, because I had put down Trauma Center for a little bit out of frustration... there's no way I'll ever finish it. You can't just dive right back into that crazy shit from idle. I wouldn't even remember how to treat that shit.

I'm certainly looking forward to it. I thoroughly enjoyed the first DS Trauma Center. Difficult at times but always rewarding. Heck, it's one of the few games I've actually tried to go and S-Rank everything (I'm 7 missions short.. and I've probably gotten too rusty now to try and get those last ones, damn you thread for reminding me!)
Anyone notice how some things (mattresses and the copy machines in Highrise) are totally impenetrable? A steel wall, yeah that makes sense, but bullets should obliterate copy machines.
I don't know about you, but I always buy a bullet proof printer. Its a lot more expensive, but I think the advantages are apparent.
I'm still holding out for the amazing crossover in which Derek has to operate on Phoenix Wright, who repays him by defending him in a malpractice suit, and when it looks like he's about to lose the Elite Beat Agents show up to cheer him on to victory.

Savato was evil, but the worst one was that triangle shit. That is the eternal punishment I'm going to face in hell. I actually cheated on the X mission and still couldn't get the last triangle out before another spike grew in.

The triangle wasn't that hard if you followed the pattern and moved fast. What I did was I slowed time, yanked up all I could, and moved slowly but surely on the last few.
I think the triangle one is one of the easiest once you understand how it works. Probably the one I hate most is Kyriaki. X1 was a bitch (certainly harder than some of the X missions after it, I feel) and I've still not S-ranked the 5 patients in x minutes mission... damn you Kyriaki!
To hype myself up, I've got "On the Cutting Edge of Medicine" on endless loop. So good......
And there is not enough discussion on how the hell America is getting this before Japan. When was the last time this happened for a Japanese developed game?

Trauma Center's more successful here than it is in Japan, I figure.
It's also Atlus USA's most profitable series by far; I think Second Opinion broke 500k.
And Odin Sphere got a simultaneous release.
Anyway, awesome news. I was hoping for a New Blood 'port', but this'll do nicely.

I think the DS lacks proper Nipple Shaders, which is the main reason God of War went to the PSP instead of the DS.

I had to start from the beginning.
I must say that I am quite excited. I look forward to having my ass handed to me by GUILT this July 4th.

Yeah, the art keeps changing, and not in a good way. It's like they insist on making him look 15.
The original DS game had it right, Stiles (and everyone else) looked appropriately aged.

And pointy! I liked how everyone was pointy.

Can't remember which, though.
It was pretty clever.

Etrian Odyssey. Dr. Hoffman ran the Apothecary in 1 and it looks like Derek does so in 2.
