For the past year I have had my hair just shy of shoulder length. Unfortunately I went to a crazy stylist who cut it back about 3 inches before I even knew what was going on. This being the case I would like to take the opportunity to grow it back as quickly and healthy as possible. As of now I shampoo and condition once a day ( is this too little / too much) I usually leave the conditioner in for about 1 - 2 minutes. I also have a pretty good diet and take a multivitamin everyday. Is there anything I can do to accelerate growth besides one of those stupid gimmick hair growth drugs? I would like for it to be back to shoulder length or longer as soon as possible, (ideal would be in the next 5 months) but that is probably around 4 - 5 inches of growth.
There's a forum for men growing their hair long here: www.mlhh.org.
Long story short: No. Having a sufficient amount of protein in your diet is important, as are a variety of vitamins, but it sounds like you've got that covered. Eating more meat won't make your hair grow faster, just make sure you are getting a normal healthy amount. Some people claim 'biotin' is some kind of magic chemical that could help, but I have seen no proof. Just don't cut it. Average hair growth is about a half inch per month, so you should have the three inches back in half a year. Not too bad.
frogsarecool is right; there's no magic way to make your hair grow faster. What you can do is take good care of it so that you get fewer split ends that have to be cut off. To start with, don't wash it every single day; cut back to once every two or three days if you can manage it. It'll get greasy at first, but after a little while your scalp will adjust and stop producing so much oil. When you towel it dry, don't rub it, and get some leave-in conditioner to work through it before you comb it with a wide-tooth comb, not a brush (don't ever brush your hair when it's wet). Try not to wear a ponytail too often; that causes breakages too.

No clue if $20 shampoo can make your hair grow faster. It says it can.
You could also go crazy and strap weights to locks of your hair and sleep upside down.
