Amazon shipped me mine fast even with their Super Saver Shipping (AKA Sometimes Super Slow). Finished up MGS3 from the Essentials collection with full rumble. It's very nice. Resistance and Uncharted have been in my backlog for a while too so now I can get my rumble on with them as well.
Price is pretty much par for the course for this gen. Shit, a Wiimote+nunchuk will run you $60 US...although at least it does do a little more than let you push buttons without wires.

Wait, so PS3 games have had rumble all along, and we've just been waiting for Sony to provide a controller that enables it?

I bought a Japanese one. It's awesome. The controller feels much more substantial, and makes the SIXAXIS feel almost like a quick cash-in throw it out the door model. The plastic is higher grade on the Dualshock, the buttons feel a little more solid, and the analog sticks just feel better.
Plus, it says Dualshock 3 SIXAXIS on top of it, which is rather hilarious.

We should probably blame MS.
What? Why? Because they told Sony and Nintendo how to price their accessories!

Yeah, pretty much. Although not all PS3 games support it. I think pretty much all SCEA games support it.

I'm happy that the PS3 is a console where not every single game forces you to do the waving-around thing like the Wii. I'm not trying to turn this into a PS3 vs Wii thing. I'm just saying I'm perfectly happy with the balance it has made between the motion-controls and the standard gaming controls.
(Thus, the SIXAXIS does more than just let you push buttons, it has a motion sensor)

Nintendo charges you $39.99 for a controller that has rumble, motion, a speaker, and an infrared camera.
Sony wants $54.99 for just rumble and motion.
Regardless, let's drop the comparisions. This is NOT some thread to argue about systems in.
Looking at the prices in the states, I dread to think what they're going to be like here in the UK. I could probably pick up a forcefeedback wheel for not much more.
Game controllers have always been expensive, for some reason. It's not like Sony is pioneering high-priced controllers. I don't get why they all have to cost as much as a game. I was pretty surprised to find out it cost nearly 40 bucks just to manufacture them.

Cost on these things from the manufacturer is around $37 per unit.
Just sayin'.
Whats this? A company making money on a product?!?!?!?!
MADNESS!!!!!!!!!
Come to think of it, Threep almost certainly means that Best Buy, Walmart, etc. pay $37 a pop for them and not that the cost of materials for Sony to build them is $37, given Threep's background.

This.
And I'm fine with the profit on it, the 360 controller has similar margins and the Wii... with the nunchuck? It's no wonder they're riding a tidal wave of cash. A cash tsunami, wiping out greater parts of Japan, if you will.

Either way, I would pay 100 dollars just to get rid off this crappy plastic SIXAXIS. Say what you want about the Dreamcast controller and the Duke, but the SIXAXIS is the worst first party controller ever made. It's even partly to blame for me having not touched my PS3 in months outside of blu ray playing.

While four remotes are almost a necessity I could easily see myself getting away with only two nunchucks.

then I
But what choice do we have? At least we finally have rumble.
PSN: JPBrowncoat Xbox: BamSaidTheLaday Also on Steam! Streaming games!
It feels perfect, weight wise
not at all flimsy like the SA
That price...ouch. Why so much?
Passing down the rumble royalty fees to the customer?
Battle.net: Fireflash#1425

Plus the lawsuit fees.
They're right bastards, but nyko's 3rd party controller w/rumble costs $59.99, so whatcha gonna do?
I think it's down to $10.00
a few weeks ago it was $22.00

Since the Japanese DS3 release, at least.

That's because you were.
I'm still contemplating getting an import white one instead of the black one. Does anyone know if the two weigh the same?
Do you mean that Sony pays Foxconn (or whomever) $37 to build them, or that Best Buy (or whomever) pays Sony $37 wholesale?
Where are the transport costs being figured in?
*pokes the ghost of dualshocks past*
Less than double on the dollar per unit? Say it ain't so!

edit: and two wiimotes are more than adequate, given that Smash Bros and Mario Kart both work with GC controllers.
Before the PS3 was the S-Type, then NES Advantage for me, so not a lot of console background. SIXAXXXES is ok, maybe a little too lightweight.
But the real question is, is it adequate to have less than four GC controllers?
Hell no. Getting back up to four working wavebirds was quite a fucking task.
