This is Savage 2. In a nutshell, one of the funnest online games you can play with friends.
The gameplay is a hodge podge of Warcraft III, an FPS, and Fable. Or, if you are familiar with it, it is a lot like a fantasy version of Natural Selection.
There are two factions, the Humans, and the Beasts. There is some form of a story about why they are fighting, but it is meager at best. The reason you play the game is for the gameplay.
The gameplay works like this. At the start of each round, each team picks a commander for the team. The commander is the person who plays the game like Warcraft III, to further the previous analogy. He plays the game from the top down, and builds the base to allow his soldiers *you* to become better and better. However, outside of using some basic magic to get the occasional kill and heal his soldiers, he is powerless to defend himself in most cases. That is where you, the soldier, come in. For everyone who is not a commander, you choose a class. I'll get into the various classes later. Anyway, let's say you pick a Human Builder. Your screen will look like this:
The individual soldiers play in a third person style. Interesting enough, the terrain you see is the same that a commander sees! Who'd a thunk?
From here, you can see the the UI for the game, the health, the skill bars, stuff like that.
However, that is not all! If you have sharp eyes, you see that builder has a couple of abilities that use guns. This, is where the FPS begins.
Spiffy, ain't it?
As you can see here, folks, this is an awesome game *from an indie developer, no less!* Throw money at it and play it so I don't have to play random games that make me cry.
Oh, and I almost forgot! The game has a timed demo on the site, and if I remember, its like six hours. So if you aren't sure, go for it.

It was fun, but frankly... very few people play, the movements seem stiff and the FPS-action part of it...
It's an amazing game in theory, and in fact I still recommend a playthrough to get an idea of the style and to have at least tried it. It's neat, at least. There are magic classes, too.
[edit]: Wait... It's possible I was playing Savage One. Thinking back, the game I played wasn't nearly as good looking as those screenshots.
[edit 2]: It appears, yes, I was thinking of the first Savage. It also appears the sequel looks very nice, so I think I'll surely be playing it.
Edit: But yeah, not too many people play Savage II either Hence why I'm trying to find a group for it.
As a consequence, I don't even know how to play the game well, since I've never been able to get a full game in.
Anyhow, if a PA server goes up or something similar, I'd be happy to participate.
It doesn't anymore. That's all I can say, really. It was totally polished up, they cleaned up the netcode, everything is fine now.
But it still feels really, really buggy to me. I just booted it up after a long time, and got a huge patch. When I tried to play, it wanted to force a tutorial on me, but I said no. I joined a game, and suddenly the tutorial audio is playing in the background while I'm trying to get into the loadout?
Okay, so, I'll play the tutorial first. And hot damn, they made it so much better than before. The original tutorial was laughable, and sounded like it was narrated by Bob from accounting. This new one is a whole lot better.
Except it's broken. It asks me to build a journeyman in the RTS mode, and that button is greyed out.
So I restart the tutorial. It skips to that point, and starts playing ten different audio tracks simultaneously. Like, it's playing the whole tutorial in one burst over itself.
Augh. They really released this game before it was ready. The polish is coming in more and more, but its still so inexplicably buggy. My password-lock screen deactivation in XP still refuses to run after I've played this game. Weird.
The tutorial was implemented on day one, actually. I remember going through it on release day, which is why I thought it was odd when it 'strongly recommended' I go through it again. They have changed it recently, though. I remember it was initially quite useless.
Anyhow, I'm slowly getting my barrings back in this game. Do we need to put up our in-game names, or are we just going to use the thread for organization? I used to go by Tetranitrocubane in-game, but after the recent patches they said the name was too long, so I had to change it to Teflondjinni.
Savage 2 doesn't look half bad, either. I'll have to download it and try it out.
