Networked PC refusing to be "unsecure"

We have a small network here, a half dozen PCs, all XP boxes. They were all here before I started working here, and I took over undoing what the previous guy had done, which was shit all over everything and rip off my boss. Everything works fine, they're only networked to share printers and files, nothing complex. But, for the life of me, I cannot get one of the PCs to allow network access. I can add it to the network just fine, the other PCs can see it on the workgroup computers screen, but trying to access it gets me

"xxxxx is not available. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator blah blah blah...

Logon Failure: The user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer."

The network isn't protected, none of the PCs have passwords of any kind, each PC only has one user profile. The PC that won't allow itself to be accessed over the network can access all the other PCs. It's running XP Home. The majority of the stuff I've found through Google has been for Win2k or XP Pro, and hasn't helped. The few things I've found for Home haven't helped either, namely changing HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa to allow anonymous access.

I'm stumped, help.

I don't know if Home has access to the policy editor, but you can try running 'secpol.msc', then Local Policies. Check everything, but specifically 'User rights assignment', at the very top 'Access this computer from the network" and make sure everyone can.

If you don't see anything amiss there or Home doesn't doesn't have a policy editor, I'd just say reformat. If the guy before you was really incompetent, you should've reformatted anyway, he may have left backdoors or something that you don't know about.

XP Home is limited to networks of 5 machines or less as it was never meant to be used in a business environment. PC #6 and above won't be able to access workgroup resources.

    Solution: Upgrade to XP Professional.
