So I use Blogger, and I've a few stupid questions. Maybe we could have a blogger hints and tips thread?
1) Does anyone know if it's possible to do the whole 'click to continue reading thing'? It's not to get more clicks to the site mind, I hate that, it's just to hide embedded video so the front page doesn't become to heavy to load.
2) Is there a way to get your latest article's title to automatically update in your signature? That would be awesome.
All I can offer to help though, you can use http://del.icio.us/ to set up a mini news reel of interesting stuff you come accross that doesn't need a full update. Just add the code it spits out as a 'box' on your template page.

2) I'm sure there is, but I don't know how. Try browsing around on the site I linked in 1). They have a bunch of stuff, even though it is an ugly assed site.
Also, there is supposedly a way to get a java-based "peek-a-boo" method of post summaries that doesn't require reloading. I wasn't able to get it to work on my blogger site, though.
BTW, to get RSS feeds (instead of Atom) just add "?alt=rss" at the end of the link. For example:
<a href="http://yourblogname.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss">RSS Full Article</a> will give you entire posts in the feed.
Use <a href="http://yourblogname.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/summary?alt=rss">RSS Headlines</a> to only display headlines
Of course, you can put whatever you want between the <html> </tags>
The easiest way to add this is to go to Layout -> Page Element -> Add Page Element -> HTML/JavaScript.
Give it whatever title you want and then add the HTML href codes above. To give normal Atom links, do the href but leave out the "?alt=rss" bit.
Many thanks Bewildered_Ronin, I'll give that a go. You rock.
Also: Do you have a mac lewiep? NetNewsWire (and RSS reader) will change your (on-line) life. And I don't understand them at all. Also a 'yet to be launched' site uses RSS to scrub my articles as part of there Bad Science Blogs site. It's like magic.
I have no idea how atom or rss works but apparently people do it with my blog.
Is there anything I can do to make them do it better?
I don't know the ins-and-outs of it, but RSS feeds are great. They basically take site posts and update them in an external viewer. So, like, in the RSS feeder for Vista I have CNN, MSNBC, BBC, Giant Bomb, Tom's Hardware, and Gamespot articles all being constantly updated in one convenient place. I could go and click around to each site, or I can just check my RSS feeder and get the headline and a summary of the story. If I like it, I can click it and it will open that page in my browser. Pretty handy.
The weird thing with Blogger RSS (and Atom) feeds is that the summary feeds are suppossed to give you the headline plus the first 250 words of the post. Trying it out in both Google Reader and in my Vista RSS Feeder, I don't get summaries, only headlines. There may be a way to fix this, but I haven't really looked for it yet.

No problem. Always willing to help out a fellow Blogger user if I can. :^: The "read more" post summary really cleans up the homepage and makes it so much easier to browse. Also, if you don't like the "read more" link opening things in a new browser window/tab, just click on the headline and it will load in the same window/tab.

Although every now and again I do lengthy blogpost. I wanted to do this for the lengthy blogposts, but this method has to be applied to all posts, meaning that my tiny blogposts would look like this
Animal Crossing: Wild World, DS - £14.43
Animal Crossing: Wild World, DS - £14.43 delivered Read More
and clicking on "Read More" would just be the same thing again.
Any suggestions as to how I could make it only apply to relevant posts?

Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to make the "read more" links only show up on certain posts and not on others. I looked around a lot, and didn't find anything. The only way I can think that this might be able to happen is if Google themselves add in a feature to enable expandable posts on a "per post" level. You might want to send an email to the site that I linked before, as they seem to know a good deal about coding with Blogger. One of the things that I do is add a little "nothing after the jump" notice at the bottom of the post, but the vast majority of my posts tend to be lengthy.
I thought I would bump this post to see if anyone knew if something I am trying to do it possible.
My current RSS feed (which I have just set up to forward to feedburner to I can track information about it, just contains all my posts. I have links at the top of my blog for all the separate formats, since someone asked me to, but I just cheated, and each one just links to a search page for the format in question, eg the "Xbox 360" link is just "http://savygamer.blogspot.com/search?q=360".
Now, is there any way I can create platform specific RSS feeds? So, a feed that would display every post that would come up for the 360, and then all the other platforms?
