X3 sequel announced, Tube declares life to be over
I need to go back to playing X3 over the summer, that's when I get my craving for space. I also want to hear what the next Elite is going to be like, since that's where my heart really lies (although X3 is really good once you get into it).
To be honest I'd be more interested if they actually had good space combat in there.
Last time I got a decent fix for that was probably Freelancer.
Iagree, I love X3 but it sorely needs a better engine for the combat. I guess in a perfect world we'd get Freespace 2 combat married with the complexity of the X games.
I love me space games. I hope it isn't more of the same, though.
Edit: It doesn't really seem like a sequel. It still goes under the title X3. It's not X4. The site says it's the next installment for the story. Graphically, it looks like the same engine, too. I have a feeling it'll feel little more than an expansion, but who knows.

Good lord, Freelancer was awesome. I still fire it up from time to time.
Which reminds me, I really need to get hold of a decent joystick again so that I can try out Starlancer. Game's like a decade old, but when I played the demo ages ago I thought it was quite good. I think I've still got the discs around somewhere.
Ever since I realized spacecraft don't behave like aircraft in space, everything just seems kinda off.
I mean, thats like having something behave the same way in air and underwater.
But I also realize if any space-combat game incorporated true space vacuum physics, I'd throw a small child at my computer in frustration.

Also, weapons. When you shoot lasers in real life, they move at the speed of light, not as weird projectiles flying through the air or vacuum or whatever.
And in the year 3999, your computer's targeting systems shouldn't exactly have the possibility of missing with what's basically a hitscan weapon.
Oh god. I vaguely understand now. That thing, in your pictures, the last picture. You can fly that.
In X3 you could get the biggest ships in the game and then try and fight Terran ships (like the Odin) and they'd say "hahahaha, SHIT no" and blow you up in two seconds. In your HUNDRED MILLION CREDIT SHIP.

But that would be realism at the expense of fun.
I can generally excuse all that.
My original point is that the space-flight-resembling-atmospheric-flight is such a ridiculous notion, its like, what the fuck?

I'm sure Elite used newtonian physics. Or at least gave you the option.

I know of at least one Freelancer mod that hacked around in the exe and added newtonian physics.

And I'm surprised you havent heard this already. Tsk.
That said though I'm eagerly awaiting the chance to lay my hands on a sweet Terran cruiser.

YOU'LL GET TO FLY A TERRAN ODIN
OH GOD
PLEASE JESUS CANCEL THIS GAME
But that trailer is pretty rocking.

Also, will this feature two new enemy races that team up with the Kha'ak, the Di'ix and the Llo'l?

You need a reason? C'mon... Global Warming man! Not enough hot pants in the world to stop it either.
OT: I loved X3, but I was so very terrible at it. I'll buy this because I'm a sucker.
you wouldn't understand
Basically you sit still and the univserse slowly floats past you as you light it on fire with lasers and plasma.

I know man, I know.
I'm going to have to start going back to those wretched meetings.
I need to avoid any kind of media on this, so when it comes out I can be properly surprised.
This will last until about 2PM today when code is compiling and I need something to look at.
This is infinitely better.

FUCK YOU FOR ALERTING ME TO THIS
YOU'RE GOING DOWN TO CHINATOWN
However I know my computer won't be able to run it well. Thank God.
But I'm getting a new PC.
I can generally excuse all that.

So what is this... X3?

That aside, can someone give me a rundown on the game play for this?
