If you're into strategy - you can get Battles of Prince of Persia and Age of Empires DS both pretty cheaply. I absolutely loved BoPoP - it was generally poorly reviewed due to admittedly lackluster presentation - but for probably less than $10 it's a great deal.
I hope not to incite an almost inevitable argument, but I think that while Yoshi's Island DS is inferior to the original in every way, it is still a good and wortwhile platformer. Comparing virtually any 2D platformer to Yoshi's Island1 and saying it is inferior in every way almost always rings true because Yoshi's Island1 is arguably one of if not the best 2D platformer ever.
So by average 2D platforming standards, I think YI-DS is a good and worthwhile game. But don't go in expecting the first YI1..
Pokemon might be a good buy... I've read only good things...
The only problem is that the game is so goddamn slow. They slowed it down significantly compared to the last iteration, which seems very counterintuitive since new installments are usually more streamlined.
Lots of good ideas in this thread, although it needs more Puzzle Quest (backing you up, Lunker).
Sweet Jesus am I excited for Drone Tactics, if it ever arrives. Like Advance Wars but with customizable mecha bugs and gaining experience. So like Front Mission with bugs, oh but there's a collectible card system as well. I swear, if this game has (and I don't know that it doesn't) salvage, a decent economy, and destructible environments, I'd pretty much be in heaven!
Anyone know what the heck happened to the North America release of DS Air (AKA Air Impulse)?
Developed by Nintendo, it was release back in February of last year in Japan and was slated to come out late last year but seems to have fell of the face of the earth.

I just found out about this game and after watching the trailer I'd give one of my left nut just to have it release in NA. o_O
Wow. This is totally a replica of Aero Fighters Assault for the N64 and that game was AWESOME. Even the bosses, the submarine and flying fortress, remain intact.
Calling Advance Wars basic is a real laugh. It's anything but. You just need to get further in the campaign or skip straight to the already made war room style maps.
If you want an RPG experience unequaled this generation get Etrian Odyssey.
Talking more about the fact that it's the same units every map. By like the 13th or so campaign map you've got every unit there is. I got bored at around 17 or so because of the lack of variety.
I learned I like tactical RPGs not tactical games in general. Lack of advancement/upgrades gets boring.
Old poast, but have you looked into the Fire Emblem GBA games? You may enjoy them, plus there's the DS Fire Emblem hitting later this year.

wtf.
I just watched some gameplay videos of this game.
it looks fucking incredible.
why is this not out in North America?
I have no Idea. I sent NOA an inquiry on the current status of the game but got nothing else but a generic response from them only indicating that it has been announced by Nintendo (about more then a year ago) and that it hasn't been given a release date.
I'll ask around/look a little more and see if the game is still even on track for release here...

Holy crap!
Jet Impulse looks like a spiritual to succesor to Afterburner, but injected with 9000 metric tons of explosive kick-ass-ium. Crazy plane paint schemes including tiger stripes? Check. CG Missle launching sequences? Check. Broken Engrish audio cues? Check? Super Mobile Battleships firing death lasers? Check. Done deal. I'm importing.
"R(L)OCK OHN! TAHGET DEESTROIED"
All my dicks, etc.
Just out of curiousity, where did the name Air Impulse come from? The Japanese site refers to it as Jet Impulse...

My bad, I get the two mix up a lot...
e.g. DS Air, Air DS, Air Impulse, Jet Impulse etc. :P
You probably do need to play the PW games in order.
Having only played the first and third, the third game heavily spoils the second case in the second game. JFA is pretty hard to find though and I've heard it isn't as good as the others, so it might be worth skipping for T&T if you can't immediately find it.
Just started playing Orcs & Elves. There's a healthy amount of drinking Dwarvish Ale. Plus you buy weapons from a feisty she-dragon. Quality dungeon hack/crawl.

Yeah, Metroid Prime Pinball is a great pinball game.
But I think it really shines when you are a Metroid fan who's played most of the 2d and 3D Metroid games.

Well at first it said Late to the Party: Nintendo DS but I guess some idiot mod decided to erase that.
Good deal? Do I need to play the Phoenix Wright games in order?
Depends on the condition of the DS.
The first PW game isn't hard to find at all, the second one seems to be the hard one to find these days.
True Swing isn't very good. The price though isn't too bad, though again it really depends on the condition.

Getting started with BATTLETECH: Part 1 / Part 2

Official Japan site (http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/awgj/index.html) <- has a trailer.
Official US site (http://www.nintendo.com/gamemini?gameid=xhwJRovaZe7P-ILSqzHDQnbFeKynXMxW) <- site is down or no longer exist.
