Hurts. So bad. Sick.

I'm sitting here after getting maybe four hours of sleep, period, over two times I made it asleep. Godawful chills, wake up and I feel like I'm on fire; fever dreams all night. So sore, bad headache, ears hurt, tylenol/advil/nyquil/benedrill not doing anything (waited 6 hours between each dose, don't worry). Coughing up green, can't cough too much anymore since throat is so sore and I'm so weak. Came on suddenly yesterday afternoon. No naseua, which makes me rule out the Flu, and my neck isn't hurting any more than the rest of my body, so I don't think menigitis. Feel like I've been hit by a bus; can't remember the last time I felt this sick/achy. Urgent care opens in 2.5 hours, roomie is driving me, it's 6:35am here now. Is he boned? - I don't want him to have what I have, but I've been staying far away as possible for a dorm room.

Short: Oh God, hurts.

I had that once. I thought I was going to die. I cannot remember what I had, but get to a doctor ASAP.

Hey I was where you were Saturday. Now i'm experiencing new and unique stages of hell. It may very well be the flu as nausea is apparently a misconception about many strands of the virus. Plus the sudden onset of your symptoms is on par with the flu.

I don't have a cough but I have what I believe to be a sinus infection. Urgent care did a pretty lousy diagnostic of my symptoms and I was in and out of there in under five minutes so i'm hopefully seeing a respiratory specialist today. My feverish symptoms have diminished. Keep me updated if you don't mind it could be a similar strand.

Oh and yeah your roomie could easily get infected, be careful.

Coughing up green...get yourself some Mucinex. It'll break up the mucus you have, as it's an over-the-counter drug for sinus infections. I'd guess that you'd have some sort of a sinus infection from your headache, fever, and green mucus.

Fun Facts: A fever is caused by the release of Interleukin 1, which is a byproduct of increased phagocytosis. Fever causes a great deal of inflammation, which in turn causes your blood vesicles to dilate (vasodilation). This is what's causing the all-over soreness.

*Sorry for the term dump, I'm a Bio Major looking to go Pre-Med so I don't really get a chance to spew all these terms very often. Go see a doctor.

Not the OP, but it's nice to know how my body is trying to kill me.

I really hate that everyone thinks puking=flu=influenza. It does not. They need to start teaching that in elementary school or something. What you have, sir, sounds exactly like the real flu, the influenza flu. Sudden onset, achy-ness, fever, it all adds up. It sucks major. I've never gone to the doctor when I've had it, but that doesn't mean it isn't a good idea. In the mean time, make sure you keep hydrated! Here's hoping for a speedy recovery for you, I know how much the flu sucks.

How green is your sputum? (the shit you are coughing up)
Can you not cough up anything?
Are there patchy white spots on your throat?

I feel for you man, I do. There isn't much advice I can give since you're already headed to the doctor. Stay hydrated and try to keep yourself occupied. At least you're not puking.

Thanks for the responses, guys. Sorry I fell off there for awhile, had the fun experience of spending 5 hours in Urgent Care yesterday - I passed out shortly after writing the OP (which I barely remember), and ended up going to Urgent Care around noon. The aches were a little better by that point, but an hour and a half waiting in the lobby, then 2 hours (?!) waiting in an exam room for a doctor after the nurse saw me was a bit ridiculous. Seemed like a decent job with the diasgnosis, though, they did a strep test and everything, and the doc told me I just seem to have the sinus infection from hell. They put me on antibiotics (Zeepak?) and after 6 or 7 hours of sleep and the first-day-superdose of the meds, I'm feeling a lot better, if still congested as all hell as this stuff drains out of me. It's still bright green, and occassionally there's little bits of blood in it, which is freaking me out, but I think it's more to do with the physical exertion of coughing and blowing my nose than bacteria destroying my capillaries or whatever. I think by the time I finish my round of meds (5 days) I'll be back to normal, although I'm posting this from class right now, and I'm doing fairly well.

Anyways, judging from the OP, I'm not even sure what I was going for as far as a question, but mainly just looking for the sympathy of fellow PA'ers through a fever haze. Which was delivered :) Thanks, guys.
