Web links always open in IE7, despite Firefox being my default browser

Bought a new laptop about two months ago and it's made of the purest Awesomes. I have Firefox on it, but if someone sends me a link in an IM or I click a link in Twhirl it will always open in Internet Explorer 7. I've checked IE7's settings and Firefox's settings. I've looked at the Default Programs settings on Vista and there's no reason why it shouldn't be using Firefox. In short, my laptop knows Firefox is my default browser, but it doesn't give two shits.

Any suggestions?

    If your using MSN Messenger for your chat client then I think it is hard coded to use IE to open links. Not sure about Twhirl.
