So I have a chance to buy an iPhone for usage up here in Canada. I simply want to know if it's worth waiting for the suspected 3G version of the piece of hardware.

I'd say absolutely. I think we'll know the specs of the new phone by the end of June or whenever the next Apple conference is.
Really? It's one of those thing where I kinda want it now. What does a 3G phone offer on the Rogers Wireless over the iPhone today. Could it be cheaper?
I'm not planning on using the data features due to the fact that a unlimited data plan on a SIM card phone does not actually exist in Canada yet (or anytime in the near future). Do any Canadians know if Rogers even supports 3G tech?
Even if you aren't going to use 3g to get online, its basically going to have better storage and camera

I would wait, and I say that as an owner of the current gen of iPhones. They are great phones but the new version coming out is looking to blow these away. (Should the rumors be close to true)

The new beta version SDK dumps also show the new iPhone to have a 5MP camera MPEG H263 accelleration.
Of course it doesn't mean these features will be included but they aren't stuck in there for the hell of it you know?
Storage increase isn't guaranteed but I oh so hope it happens.
basically the biggest draw of 3g is 2 way video calls
Which I'm pretty sure I'd never use.
And yeah, a current iPhone isn't at all bad, even with Edge. I'm just gonna guess and say the new iPhone might be $600 or so. I'd say wait and see, but it might be the case that a current iPhone would be better for the cost depending on what you want.

Well if Apple holds true to the past, the new gen iPhones will take over the current spots and price points of the older gen. Which isn't a bad thing either way, since it will drive the price of the older phones way down.
I was actually thinking about that, but I had the initial iPhone prices in mind, not the drastically reduced ones.
Well I did get a nice rebate from Apple when they dropped the price of the phone, so I don't think that they will go back to their original pricing (Which got them lambasted if you recall)

Yeah, 3g kills Edge

Satans..... hints.....
oh please, we've gone from 4 to 16 and there's a 32 gig touch. And this is Apple we're talking about here.
speaking of edge, this works pretty decently. Even youtube.

The youtube app requests a low quality file when you are on EDGE and a high quality file when you are on Wi-Fi.
EDIT: I wasn't disagreeing with you or anything, I find EDGE to be pretty damn adequate.
