You know those crazy ass race car tracks you'd make as a kid, sending cars through loops and leaps and crashes? Trackmania is essentially that, and the newest version of Nations is entirely
free. Trackmania is all about the crazy races.
It runs extremely well on pretty much all computers, so make sure to give it a try if you don't think it'll run!
For those of you who know and love Trackmania, know that this also serves as an expansion for
Trackmania United, adding new tracks and giving some environmental overhauls to three previous environments. Now you also get to share your tracks with everyone, not just those who have Trackmania United, as Nations Forever players and United players can join hands in racing. Nation Forever peeps will only get access to the nation set of track blocks and cars, though. I'm not sure if Nation Forever people can join other environmental tracks, so you might be limited to only Stadium-based tracks.
Still! I can't wait. Trackmania is pretty much my favorite racer ever, next to F-Zero itself.

I've been warned off the older versions in the past, but free is hard to argue against.
Looks like the new "Forever" Stadium is a graphical update (oh please, let us get those dirt track sections, please please).
Anyway, the press release says that free players will get the new Stadium and that's it, except now we'll be able to play with the TM:United players (but only in Stadium). For the TM:United people, they get new tracks and such as part of the "United Forever expansion".
I will definitely be checking this out on the 16th.
Steam (Ansatz) || GW2 officer (Ansatz.6498)
There's a nocd update in united coming as part of this expansion anyway so you could buy and do some trickery to avoid starforce altogether
Steam (Ansatz) || GW2 officer (Ansatz.6498)
Which would make me happy since we could actually get people to play this.
If they get rid of it then it will be awesome.
I KISS YOU!
Especially since I'll be able to run a server again
I -still- have the maps for the original Trackmania demo that G&Ters made.
Start making custom levels people, so I can start hosting them.
Just so nobody missed it:
NO STARFORCE IN NATIONS FOREVER
I'll get to work right away on some tracks.8-)
Nadeo, all Trackmania sites, and me, since it didn't install a Starforce driver.
And it should support a gamepad.
- How's the singleplayer?
- Is it easy to create your own racetracks? CAN you create your own racetracks?
- How's the online and community?
- Nations forever adds onto United right? So I can just download it and install it like an addon pack and make use of nall the combined features?
Also: I had a lot of fun with it in single player because the tracks are actually fun to ride.
- How's the singleplayer? - Pretty excellent, although not strictly single player, you can download new tracks as and when you want that are made by others. Then rate them at the end
- Is it easy to create your own racetracks? CAN you create your own racetracks? - Yes very easy, like making scalatrix as a kid
- How's the online and community? - Pretty well intergrated, the people who bought united (which now becomes united forever) can play against those on nations forever which is nice.
- Nations forever adds onto United right? So I can just download it and install it like an addon pack and make use of nall the combined features? - on steam you can straight download United forever which is everything
Add me I'm Freelancepolice
I retract my earlier post. Apparently Steam had the stand alone version and the free version up before the patch went through for those of us who had TMU already.
Not all of us have a steering wheel, and honestly, I'm more interested in getting a decent joystick for my space combat sims (The space combat in "The Precursors" looks like it might be interesting, even if it's only part of a whole there).
Otherwise my only other option is probably keyboard or mouse. I actually used to do well on a keyboard, wonder whether that's still the case.
I KISS YOU!
NO STARFORCE
Going from this to GT Prologue hurts. Both good, but so different.
I think the thing I love most about this is the online ranking and competitive nation play. To me, it will always be like the Olympics of video games.
