I bought a Russian DVD. No it isn't porn. Its authentic from Russia though and I can't get it to play on my xbox360 or my dvd player. The Xbox says this when I try to play it:
"Can't play dvd. This disc's region code is incorrect for this console."
Tha fuck does that mean?!My dvd player just doesn't say anything in explaination, it just chills on its standby screen as if to spite me. Please help!

Different countries have different region encodings.
America is 1 and region 1 dvd players can only play region 1 dvds (also region 0 as that is the universal region)
You are out of luck, I suppose you could try ripping the dvd to your computer and removing the encoding and reburning.
Probably not, it being a Russian film from Russia.
Here is a guide for adding subtitles to an .AVI file. You might be able to find a subtitle file for your movie through the link on that page, or online elsewhere.
Extracting the DVD into an .AVI is another matter. Here's the first relevant article I found through Google (you many have better results, but searching "creating an avi from a dvd" returns a list of guides on how to put the .AVI onto a DVD).
You have your work cut out for you... it's a very time-consuming process.

We're just talking about ripping a DVD, right? That's not difficult these days, you use HandBrake and you're done. Rather than trying to render the subtitles over the video as it is being encoded, just download some subtitles in an .SRT file and then use a player that will load subtitle files. The player will handle the overlay of subtitles on the video and you won't have to worry about getting fancy.
