So I'm playing Shiren on NDS after just learning the genere is called a rougelike remembering Azure dreams thinking to myself, this game lacks hot chicks.
Sure I'm a pervert and sometimes gameplay is not my only concern so I'm asking the community does the DS have any games like Azure Dreams?
whoops, if its consolation it consumed the better part of my summer. always wanted the japanese version where you could marry and bang the woman, unlike the boring english... but then again I like being able to read the words too.
Honestly I mostly like the game for the way it mixed town building with RPG.
As far as the dungeon exploration bit goes, I can kind of see how playing that game might have helped give me my current taste for roguelikes. You can tell it's roguelike inspired in the same way you can tell the original toejam & earl is roguelike inspired.
This game was sweet, and had great music an atmosphere. The ending/final boss fight blew.
There was a GBA remake that was actually pretty decent, it had a much larger tower, and once you finished going up the tower you learn it has a basement too.

Yeah, it was pretty interesting in the way it included a lot of features form different types of games, particularly the monster training, but the thing that always kinda bugged me about it was how it had all these different feature sets yet none of them really felt 100% complete. The dating aspect was, of course, nerfed for the english version, but the main plot didn't really have too much in the way of resolution, and the game suddenly feels incredibly small once you've seen most of the tower and realize that the town is the only other place in the game. When I played I really wished that once you completed the tower, you would have been able to venture out to some other locales and just see more than the same two places over and over.
Also, the sprite for the aura bike was just messed up, in that it would only show certain directions depending on which way the camera was turned, even though all the graphics were there.

Hated it, stuck with it, liked it in the end, never got to finish it before returning it to friend, got my Playstation stolen.
I remember my monster being a clown with a scythe or something. He ruled.
I remember playing through MGS after accumulating an almost complete bestiary in Azure Dreams. That Psycho Mantis fight truly is a predecessor to Eternal Darkness.
My favorite of the seven different girls was always the shopkeeper. I don't know why.
I've always been curious to try out this game. I hear it was ported to Gameboy Color, and the GBC version was better?! That's just what I've read though. Any truth to this?

The fact that it was ported is true. The notion that the Gameboy version is better is a vicious lie. The DS sequel is... hmm... I want to say total crap but that doesn't quite convey its awfulness.
This game was good times, except for the losing all your levels when you re-enter the tower, I hate that in console roguelikes.
I actually like that aspect in both AD and games like TimeStalkers (Dreamcast game, great fun). As it makes it more of a strategic title than a level grind. What items and familiars do I bring, what will I need against this type of monster, etc.
Tons of fun for people like me.
Of course, once I figured out that the bronze sword and the mirror shield were immune to the rust traps and could be dusted up to +255 damage and +255 defense respectively, well... I won.

The Japanese version also let you marry and bang the guy.
Well, not bang since you couldn't do that to either men or women.
I still have this game, still have my guy, am still climbing up the tower every so often. I absolutely love it.

I made it halfway up the tower, had built a bunch of neat shit and had many romantic interests.
Then the power went out. I didn't have a memory card at that time.
It went back to the rental shop the next day and I tried to put it out of my mind forever. Curse you, OP. Curse you.

edit: or diablo for that matter
