. The game models every country in the world with over 400 values each. I'm all in favor for more political sim games!
Official Release:
IGS (Interactive Gaming Software), a privately funded interactive entertainment publisher, today announced it will release a unique geo-political simulator game titled Commander In Chief. The game, which gives you the opportunity to become a head of state or government and make decisions on its behalf, is currently slated for retail release in the U.S. in Q2 2008 and will be available for $39.99. Published by IGS, Commander In Chief offers a true, realistic, and entertaining simulation of running a country’s government and taking part in economic, military, political, social, cultural, and foreign affairs.
In Commander In Chief, every country in the world is represented with its own unique data of over 400 key values (geographic, climatic, demographic, budgetary, environmental, etc.). Players are able to select the country of their choice and take on the role of the government’s leader. As the country’s leader, the players have a number of actions at their disposal. First, the player has to select a cabinet to oversee individual government services. In addition to specific decisions (changing tax rates, firing a minister, etc.), the player can also negotiate with labor groups, sign business or military contracts with partner countries, and participate in decision-making at international organizations. The game offers single player mode and a multiplayer 'Wargame' mode.
Titled 'Mission President' in the French market, the game has already received the top ranking with GFK (an institute that surveys and collects sales on the French PC and console market) and was the best selling title in FNAC stores (the leading chain store for multimedia products in France). Currently, there are over 229 countries and territories represented within the 3D World Map, and more than 50 international organizations including the UN, NATO, OPEC, NAFTA, and the Arab League.
Holy shit does the game cover a ton of stuff, including weather simulation and other environmental factors.
In G.P.S., the player plays the role of the head of State or government (president, monarch, prime minister …) of a country he has selected at the beginning of the game, and may intervene in all the following fields: the economy, social issues, the military, the Home Office and the Foreign Office, ecology, culture, etc.
Every country in the world is featured along with its characteristics and own specificities.
Three game modes are offered to the player:
-“Free mode”: the player's objective is to remain in power as long as possible and to further his influence throughout the world.
- "Scenario" and "missions" modes: these offer different game contexts featuring various issues: new elections, environmental issues, army invasions...
- "Wargame" mode: several players (up to 16) confront one another online in the course of military campaigns taking place in real time. This mode is also available in solo gaming.

I figure I'd spend most of my initial time trying to see if I can trigger WWIII using various countries.
OH CRAP PLAGUE IN IMBAMASTAN 30 MILLION DONATION NOW GET THAT SHIT OUT!!!!!
God this game is so bought.
Just by looking at those spoilered screens.
Well sure - a volcano is localized but plagues might spread.
I'll buy the spanish version if it comes out first. We can have a [Juguemos] Commandante sin Limites
That's the first thing I thought of too. But I'd make some obscure country like Canada start it with the Danish, or have the Falklands War II: Get the Falk off my Island
Also, does anyone know if this game is objective in the consequences of your policies? I don't want some shit like "You reject Kyoto treaty, oh noes global warming Jake Gyllenhaal was right!" and "National helathcare passed, people live to be 300!"
It will be bought, though.
Eh? You don't want there to be any linkage between CO2 emissions and global warming, or people's access to healthcare and their lifespans?
I don't want it to be an absolute certainty in the game. I want it to be a culmination of multiple factors to give the result.
There's not a lot out there...there's some really older titles like Shadow President that you might find on abandonware sites. Recent attempts like Super Power aren't worth the effort.
I thought it was just cause, you know, france.
I love Shadow President to death, even though I didn't discover it until something in the area of a decade after its release. This is such great news. And holy shit, Q2 2008?!
It's already been out in France for quite a while, so beyond integrating any patch issues into the full version I would expect the bulk of the work to be localization. Hoping we get to see a demo!
I would think a year is enough time to roll-in fixes while simultaneously working on localization.
I'm sure a game of this ambition will have plenty of bugs, particularly if it's a relatively small dev studio. Here's hoping the US release is cleaned up a bit.
