I remember this game being mentioned in a thread a while back, but IIRC it's supposed to be out now and I haven't seen anything about it since. I'm thinking of picking it up, is there anyone here who can offer an opinion on it?
Specifically, I really liked the school/social interactions of Persona 3, and love the crafting system in WoW; do you think I'd like this game?
If I end up getting it I'll pretty this post up some.
The school system in Mana Khemia is nothing at all like the one in Persona 3, so don't compare the two.
The school system in MK works like this:
Each chapter of the game is split into a number of weeks (generally 3-8 weeks, depending on how far into the game you are). Each week is classified as either a Class Day, Free Time, or Event. Events only happen at the end of each chapter and occupy the first and last week of the chapter.
Class Days take up two to five weeks of the chapter. Each chapter, you're given a total number of "credits" that you need to complete. You do this by taking various classes, which give you assignments (for example, "make this item," "collect these ingredients," or "fight this monster." You're then given a grade of A-F for your performance. As get you 4 credits, Bs 3, Cs 2, and Fs 0. Each assignment is one chapter week.
Once you fill up all the required credits, the rest of the chapter weeks (except the event) are classified as Free Time. During Free Time you can take jobs to earn money, go exploring and gathering ingredients, etc. None of that takes up the week. You can also do Character Quests, where you interact with a selected party member. This helps decide which of the nine endings you'll receive (eight endings with one for each character, and one ending for no character). Doing a character quest takes you to the next week.
From the reviews I've read, it sounds like basically an enhanced version of Atelier Iris 3 with a cool FF12-style LV-Up system. Since I thought AI3 was a decent game, I'm looking forward to trying it out. I'm #2 on the Goozex queue for the game so hopefully I won't have to wait more than a month or two.

That's basically it, yeah. It's pretty fun, and that's coming from someone who wasn't a huge fan of AI 3 (the time limits were just annoying for me)
The game is wonderful. I am only 5 hours into it but so far it's been a complete blast. It's not a hard game so don't expect a daunting challenge but it's light hearted and fun. It also leaves in the option for Japanese spoken audio so you don't need to worry about crappy English dubs. This is the first time I have played any of these games so I don't know how it compares to the previous entries in the series but it stands on it's own pretty well.
If you are a crafting addict then you'll need this game. Sure, there is combat and plot progression and all that good stuff but the meat of it all is in the crafting system, you can spend a lot of your time just tweaking your items and working on crafting stuff with different powers and all that.
Good stuff, I doubt I will ever finish it but it's not something I am going to give up on soon.
It's actually harder than the other Atelier games, but yeah, it's not difficult. (it's maybe, like a one on the scale compared to the other games' negative fifteen)
