That is right, by not so popular demand, I have been
easily persuaded to make a Dwarf Fortress play through.
We are playing fortress mode, so we have seven dwarves.
First off though, we have to choose where we want to start.
So this is a screen grab of the world which has been generated for us.
We can either have you all yell at me which type of place you want me to start in and I'll find it, or you can tell me to look at one of the squares on the world map and have me post a screen shot of the regional / local maps available there. I prefer the former as it means we can move on to the next stage more swiftly!
But if your choice is "Start in the middle of the ocean" I think it goes without saying I probably won't do it.
Choosing the expedition
We have 7.
They can each have a total of 10 skill points to start with, that come from this list
here.
Before you throw all your suggestions there are a few skills which are Pretty much essential so I'm going to write up a little bit of a roster here and anything that is written inbetween < > you are free to decide. Feel free to give me a gimpy team but I need
at least one method of generator food, if that is a grower that is fine, but if it is a hunter / milker or whatever, I'll take the cooking skill that suits it the best as well.
By the way, "Ambush" is the skill which you use to set dwarves hunting animals, I'll need a weapon skill as well if you take that.
Mechanics are also good. They let me shield myself with draw-bridges as so on.
Also, the dwarves must be named after forumers, you may choose. In addition so will any migrants we receive in later years if the gimpy expedition you choose is able to survive.
You can take a maximum of 5 in any one skill to start with. But you do not need to spend the full 5 in any one skill.
Shankill - 5 points Miner - 5 points Ambush
as7 - 4 points Building designer - 4 points Mason - 2 points flatterer
j3p - 2 points Carpenter - 5 points woodcutting - 2 gem cutting - 1 gem setting
PotU- 5 points Grower - 3 points liar - 1 point bonecarver - 1 point swimmer
Fallout - 5 points axedwarf - 5 points armor user.
(I took your 2 butcher and threw them in armor, you can actually be violent with this guy now, and decently well)
Druhim - 5 points Cook - 5 points Brewer
Captain K - 5 points fisherdwarf - 5 points fish cleaner
Feel free to suggest what items I should bring along as well, but I'm likely to just choose that myself as there is so many different items it will just be easier.

If the pictures are too long for a lot of people I'll spoiler them, but they're only 1024 wide after photo bucket resizes them, so if you're using a 1280 by 1024 (or by that 900ish resolution, what the fuck is up with that, I mean it tries to be wide screen but it really isn't) monitor you should be fine.

Having a graphical tile set helps.
also I'm a minor so it's funny
I don't remember the exact terms, but temperate and scary
I have no clue how to look for the zombies before I go, so you want a haunted location, or terrifying I take it ?
Yes but that is one post where TBH wrestles the mayor and dies, in adventure mode.
bring two picks (unskilled miners can help), an anvil, at least two dogs, and a bunch of food and shit
you want the weaponsmith and armorsmith for later on because it takes so much time to train those skills
okay I'll admit the last time I played was a version well before the z-axis so I don't know if this starting build is up to date, but this is what I used
if you go with the bland cliche that works, this will be a very boring LP and not at all appropriate for SE++
allocate my points in whichever manner is most useful to you
Gahd, aiming for success aren't we. I'll take the weapon/armour smith though because yes that shit is useful.
Pick the most haunted desolate fortress site you can find and let the computer decide your starting build! It can't go wrong!
You can choose your own skills, I don't really want to be the most successful fortress, otherwise I'd just keep playing this other one I've got going with magma forges and all that jazz.
Druhim - proficient cook/proficient brewer
we need a dedicated brewer anyway
edit: there druhim loves brewing
Nah we can have brewing, it only makes sense that every dwarf should know how to make alcohol of some kind.
oh okay
3 points in armorsmith
2 points in butcher
3 points in armor user
2 points in axedwarf
i only tried playing DF once and i was completely overwhelmed and couldn't tell what the hell anything was
uhh
put those 2 axedwarf points in something violent, then
axedwarf is violent, I'll put the armorsmith in it.
Well what skills do you want.
You can be dwarf 2 3 or 4, and if you're 4 you can take off the grower skill becuse Captain K is a fisherman/cleaner.
Tell me what I can do and I'll give you a bitch-ass dwarf.
It doesn't matter if you gimp the character, I'll deal with it.
go Team Glutton~
EDIT: Don't need no other brewer, I guess.
Those fish are going to be taking it up the ass.
Was gonna make you a milker, but then I think that one doesn't even involve you going out into danger in order to do your job. So fuck that.
E: Someone needs to name the last 2 dwarves and finish off the last 3 or so skill points while I find the location I had just a second ago,........
For those of you who don't know, just look at the left map, we are the highlighted area, I can make it larger and smaller, but only shrunk it a little to get us in an ok starting spot.
The top left little mountains, are Terrifying, which is the most hostile area you can have.
The bottom 5, are haunted, which is the second most Hostile.
The other stuff is all Wilderness, which is the second most dangerous neutral area. But it ain't so tough.
Also it has a river.
My plan is we will burrow straight down and fort ourselves up with a moat, because moats are rockin'.
we need two more forumers to step forward
