Got a problem with my Razr V3R (SOLVED)

Check it out.

My Razr's screen went out earlier today. No biggie, phone's arent a big deal when it comes to features and I had an old Samsung laying around I stuck my SIM card in. However... I had been saving my phone numbers to my phone and not the SIM.

If anyone else has a V3R or knows how to dig in the menus, can you tell me a step-by-step on how to get the numbers to my SIM? Since I can't see a frickin' thing on it, you know. It wouldn't be such a big deal, but I have about 100 numbers in my phone and need some help.

Did you save your phone numbers in categories other than 'general'?

Nah, never messed with that I don't think. I might have done the first few like that but that would be like my wife, parents, in-laws... numbers I already remember.

I've got one, and I can't find a setting that says where the phonebook is stored. I read something about the category 'general' being stored on the SIM and everything else (mine has 'business', 'personal' and 'vip') being stored on the phone. Mine's a V3C though, which should be the same (the last letter is just provider afaik, I have Alltel, but the phone was made when they were still Cingulair).

I just tried downloading a usb driver for my phone and hooking it up to the computer, but it doesn't come up as something I can look at.

Sorry. If you want me to check stuff on my working phone just let me know.

Hmm. I wonder if there's any way, since the phone's fucked anyways, to just crack the phone in half, see if a wire isn't just snapped somewhere, and try to at least write the important ones down (if there's no option to transfer). I don't really want to do this, but I need my contacts...

Any other suggestions? Any way I can re-rout the screen output to, say, my computer monitor?

EDIT: Also, I think I remember the option for changing storage from phone to SIM wasn't a change-all command, you have to do each contact individually, but I don't remember the specific menu screen...

I wonder if your backlight is shot. I've seen that on LCDs. They look totally dead, but if you put a flashlight right on top of it you can make out what the screen says. Pain in the ass, but might be helpful.

Also, I found an option called "Share phonebook entry". Here's the step by step from turning the thing on:

    UP (phone book)
LEFT SELECT (options, it's on the first entry in the phone book)
    DOWN x11 (or UP once)
SELECT BUTTON (the one between the directional pad)

At this point it's on a screen that says [looking for devices]. I assume that if it found a device it would show up and you could maybe press enter at that point? Not terribly helpful, but you never know.

    Eh, no good.

Also, it's the entire display. Even the clock on the front display is out. The keypad still lights up, and it still vibes when it rings or turns on or whatever. Just to be sure I flashlighted it and no go.

I guess I could send it in for repair but I don't have insurance on it so I'll probably pay a fuckton of cash for that. Plus it's considered obsolete, so they may not even work on it.

Cracking it in half is getting more and more tempting. There were no anomalies before this, so it seems rather spontaneous. I mean, it was working when I took a nap, I woke up and no picture.

there is a program (p2kman) that should be able to access the files stores on the phone. im sure you could use this to backup your phone book. you might want to checkout a site called motomodders (google it), and check the forums there. I personally have backed up everything on my razr (original v3) when i broke the screen on it, but i can't remember if it was p2kman or another program i used.

At the carrier's store I work at we have Cellebrite machines that will transfer all contact book information stored on the phone as long as it powers on. I see a ton of RAZRs with blank displays (happens across all phones, RAZR's just seem to have a shittier ribbon going through the flip) and with what you're describing with the phone powering on and taking calls fine I'm sure the numbers could be transferred no problem. I'd recommend taking it into a store of your carrier and asking if they could transfer the numbers to your old phone if you can't get it read at home or don't want to deal with it.

Seconded. Otherwise you'd have to get the Moto Phone tools, or try to get p2kmon (or similar) working.

Okay, that sounds good. I'll check my local office and let you guys know if we have that capability or if we're cell phone cavemen.
