Paypal shenanigans/did I get fucked

So a few months ago, I let a friend of mine use my Debit card to make a paypal account with which to sell my old WoW character. He made the transaction, case closed, I heard nothing of my account for quite some time. My actual bank account (which is tied to it and I check daily) remained at a constant level and wasn't tampered with by anyone but me.

Today I got a letter in the mail from a collections agency saying I owe some company $189. I have made no transactions with my paypal account. It said it was in regards to my "delinquent" paypal account. I haven't used this shit since my friend and I made it, I don't even know the password. I called him and he said, in his traditionally shady way, he didn't know and would call me back.

I am at a loss for what to do. What happened? How did this happen? What can I do? I'm incredibly angry and worried about this right now.

Sounds like he called Blizzard and took the WoW account back. The buyer charged back the $189 they paid for the account.

Probably what meeker said, but with the added bonus that PayPal doesn't give you the money unless you take it out. If it never went to your bank account, it probably went to your friend's.

Why the hell wouldn't you have made the account yourself?
