I think the top screen of my DS broke.

I was playing Final Fantasy III at the time, and it was on standby for 30-60 minutes, and now the top screen is white with red, blue and black lines fading in and out. Nothing seems to display up there. I turned it off thinking it might have been some sort of bug, but it didn't seem to work. Anyone else had this problem? Do I need to contact Nintendo?

Nobody? :( I tried another game, Shiren the Wanderer, but it did the same thing. I know it's pretty obvious I should call Nintendo's tech support but I want to make sure it's not something I can fix myself.

I've never heard of such a problem, and I'd be surprised if it is something you can fix. If you are still in warranty, Nintendo won't give you any trouble.

Honestly I don't know if it's under warranty or not.

Call their customer support line anyway. They're usually quite reasonable - if not down-right nice - about fixing their products.
