So the other day, I was digging through my cabinet looking for a game to play while I wait on the new pc to arrive, when I came across a long forgotten companion, my dear old Dreamcast.
I found a big stack of the best games ever, and was inspired to order a dreamcast VGA cable online.
Holy shit!
This thing looks great over VGA!
And there's apparently a huge homebrew scene!
Crazy exclamations!
This is now a thread for dreamcast love and faggotry.
P.S. Does anyone know of particularly good homebrew games to start with?

Dreamcast was wonderful. We burned out a DC once by playing 200 matches of Soul Caliber in one night. The next day, the console refused to work anymore.
I was surprised at how well the games I originally bought for the dreamcast held up.
Crazy Taxi, Chu Chu Rocket, Space Channel 5, Seaman, Jet Grind Radio, Soul Calibur, and Code Veronica all held up really well.
Phantasy Star Online isn't fun offline, and the sega smash pack is a poor implementation of games that ironically run better on the dreamcast with an emulator.
The Dreamcast was fantastic. Countless games played on it between friends and I for hours, unique titles not seen elsewhere (seaman, chu chu rocket, segagaga), and even years later many of the titles still hold up smoothly, and for hours.
Also all the peripheral games. Virtual On, Sega Bass fishing, everything that used the VMU, some of the best arcade sticks, keyboards for typing of the dead and quake 3 with the mouse, lightguns for house of the dead 2, etc. There was even cross platform multiplayer, the equivalent of early MMOs, 56k faster than cable connections for gaming, and other big advances.
I have a keyboard, I should try to find typing of the dead.

Ikaruga is the best scrolling shooter game I've ever played. Soul Calibur is the second best fighting game I've ever played. If I owned a Dreamcast all I would ever need are those two games and I would play until my hands wore down into bloody stumps.

If you ever see an Xbox in my home then it's safe to assume I've been replaced by a pod person who failed to duplicate my distaste for that system and you have my permission to kill him.

I doubt you'd be able to get it cheaper or find it as easily, though.
Since the XBLA version is only 10 bucks and instantly accessible from your couch.
Ikaruga puts me into a trance like state that is the only reason I'm able to finish that damn game.
If I'm actually thinking at all, I just die over and over again.
I love playing it.
I've never gotten past level 4, with that spiralling thing shooting a million things at you. And you can't destroy any turrets (as far as I know) so it's just total boners.

If you play it long enough, eventually you earn infinite lives somehow. At least it did that on the GC version.

Since when do jeans get sassy with you if you don't feed them in time?
Nothing but giant robots beating each other into submission with rocket punches and laser swords
I remember really wanting the Gundam game that came out for it too, but I never found a copy. I guess it was really rare or something
In the end it died after I left it on for three days straight and played it a whole bunch. I was very sad

I have wanted a Dreamcast and power stone 2 for so long but can't justify the hundred and fifty bucks necessary to buy the aforementioned on EBay

It's thinking was a great line too.
Wait that's what they're going for?
Shit, I'm glad I didn't know that before I got a VGA cable and hooked it up because I totally would have sold it.
and power stone 2 is over 50
what the fuck
Dreamcast was the "try everything!" console.
It's $10 new on play-asia unless stock recently ran out.

My heart goes pitter patter.
Or given a freebie if they got one with shitty controller ports.

Funny, because it's basically the original xbox controller with a window for the vmu.
