The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
I think the response to Monster Cable is mildly funny in a legalese *ownage* sort of way, but the really interesting bit of information here is the potential proof that Monster Cable engages in unethical behaviour. Honestly I kind of wish that the owner of Blue Jeans Cable had acted a bit more as a honeypot and worked to draw them in to actual litigation rather than smacking them down so soundly in the first letter.
Yes, because D&D is so big on allowing one link, no quote, semi-site-whore topics.
There. Fixed OP, and added a reason for you.
Enjoy, and sorry for breaking D&D rules by posting without quote. Sorry I didn't research for another link/source. Site-whore? It's not my site, I couldn't care less... It's just one place where I found his response. Completely my fault.
Not to mention this site is linked on the Slashdot front page today. Fuck, I was going to make a thread about it till I saw this one.
Yes, this is a poor thread about a relevant topic.
If you want to post a link to a site with which you're affiliated, clear it with a mod, first. You won't be automatically denied, but we aren't here to feed your site traffic numbers. While you may have been acting innocently, there's definitely a strong element of site-whoring here.
I'm going to lock this, now. If you want to recreate the thread without linking to your site, you're welcome to do so.

I submitted an entry to Lego Ideas, and if 10,000 people support me, it'll be turned into an actual Lego set!If you'd like to see and support my submission, follow this link.
Wait, is this not the OP's site/article or not? I thought he as much admitted it above.
Fuck it, I'll unlock it.

Yes, the site was on Slashdot. That's where I found it, and that's why I linked it here.
So to get that out of the way, those of you above "satan" and "cloud something or other" are wrong to accuse me of site-whoring.
It was still a shitty OP to begin with. Also, our names really aren't that hard to type.
On topic: another lawsuit, another day. Welcome to America.

That's the kind of apathy companies like Monster thrive on. Gooooooo Satan!

Now, back on TOPIC:
I'm not sure if Blue Jeans drawing them into the case would have been as satisfying as this. If that had happened, I doubt we would have heard much about the humiliation that Mr. Blue Jeans would have dealt to Monster
Perhaps. I do appreciate that he is keeping the entire affair open to the public. It's nice to see the little guy fight back against the corporate whoremongers.
The way Monster stomps around trying to crush upstart competitors really shows how scared they are that their customers will figure out they're getting totally bent over a barrel with their tender asses just waiting to be pulverized by Monster's thrusting manhood.
I like the way the letter gradually goes from simply refuting every single claim Monster makes to him describing just why and how he will fight back and why they should back down.
I think reading the entire letter by the fellow from BJC is pretty damn worthwhile, mostly because of his clear, concise description of how hit-and-run licensing/litigation tactics work. That sort of thing's pretty common these days; I'd recommend that letter to anyone running a small start-up in case of infringement threats by larger companies.

... That's nice.
I honestly expect Monster to back off. This guy sounds like he would love to go to court with Monster Cables.
Then again, maybe it's just a very well written bluff, /shrug
That's all you got?
I'm Satan.
Man I didn't even get that far, I heard about it a few days ago on Engadget and couldn't care less.
Then stop trolling the fucking thread.

Yessiree, 'cause we're eezy as Sundee mornin'
That's what we've been doing. Kinda waiting for a mod to smack this one around I guess.
Yes, yes it was. But now you're better.
I think Monster will probably pull up anchor and move on to another small business that isn't so up on the law.
