Nintendo Wii WiFi Problems (support.nintendo.com sucks)

Hi,

I recently bought a Wii from a Best Buy near my house. When I got said Wii home, I was delighted that the WiFi setup was quick and painless. Very quickly, I was connected to my Wireless service at home, and was able to access the Internet, download update, etc etc. The next day, my Wii refused to turn on at first, but when I finally got it on, I was no longer able to access the WiFi in my place. I reset the connection several times, reconnected to the network, etc. What happens is that I can see my own home network (WEP), and are able to input data accordingly. However, when I go to run the connectivity test, I either get error code 51330 or 52330, dealing with the network security protocols. I emailed support.nintendo.com, tried everything they suggested from looking at my router, etc, but still to no avail can I connect to the Internet from my Wii!!

Has anybody else had these problems, or know another good place to find information on what could have gone wrong. I am afraid that something broke the firmware in my Wii (an update, the cat pushing the power button, etc), and that I will have to get a new one. Luckily, none of the error codes I have received were said by Nintendo to be catastrophic.

Please advise.

I know this'll sound weird but I ran into a similiar situation where even my other wireless computers would work but my wii wouldn't, have you tried resetting the wireless router while leaving the wii on, then trying to connect after its fully back on.

Try changing the chanel in your router. I think 11 works.

Depends on what else is using the spectrum. 1,6 and 11 are the non-overlapping channels and you can use something like netstumbler to see where the local access points are.

No, I haven't tried that yet, I am seeing the same sort of behavior though, where I can connect with my wireless computers. I'll try that when I get home!

Be sure your router is set to wep key #1

I am pretty sure my problems were the next morning, but in that time I did get another one of my laptops on the network. I haven't tried the channel 11 trick yet either, but I did make sure the WEP key was set to 1.

    [Solved]

I got this to work after changing from WEP to WPA security, as well, doing a restore to factory settings. Something was just going on funny with the WEP. It works now!

I had *LOTS* of problems connecting a wiiU to my wifi... it was intermittent, I would drop the autodetect and fix the security type etc. It would work for a while, but then drop out, or fail to reconnect on next use...
I bought a new router, and this worked fine... I think a flash upgrade of my 2009 TPLink router would also have cured the problem... Nintendo help line did not mention this, but I think the wiiU is using a current revision of the wifi standards, so if you are struggling, first step I would advise is a flash upgrade of your wifi router...
