My Hair is Falling Out

Literally. I've always had a bushy head of hair and everything, but now whenever I'm just sitting there and run my hands through my hair.. a few pieces fall out. Constantly. I got a haircut a while ago thinking, "Dead ends. Unhealthy hair. This will fix it." Before that I had swept my floor in my dorm room expecting no more hair on the floor.

Yesterday I swept and found that there was actually MORE.

Whenever I shower, same thing. I go to put shampoo/conditioner in and I take my hand away and see hair on my hand. Its usually 2-3 strands, but why the hell is this happening? How do I go about making my hair more healthy?

Same thing happens to me, and has been for quite a while, but I've noticed no difference in the thickness of my hair. I think in my case its cos my hair is long (down to my shoulders) and breaks rather than falls out. When I wash my hair, quite a lot comes out. I think this may be perfectly natural though, either that or my hair is just more prone to breakage.

How long is your hair? And have you noticed the thickness of your hair getting any less? Is it just breaking, or is it coming out from the root?

How old are you? I have frequently lived with people who have long hair, and all of them shed like this. It sounds pretty normal, but maybe it doesn't start until your early 20s?

Unfortunately, western cultures frown upon arranged marriages, so the vast majority of people have to take risks in order to get into relationships.

It sounds like normal hair loss. Have you noticed your hair looking thinner anywhere, or your hairline moving?

If you're really concerned, the best thing you can do to stop/mitigate hair loss is start eating a healthy, low-fat diet.

also the longer your hair is, the more you'll notice when it falls out naturally - although the same amount is falling out regardless of length

A strand here or there is perfectly normal, especially when your hair gets on the longer side. In my experience, brushing daily can reduce the amount of hair you actually notice coming out of your head -- gets it out of the way early.

Yeah, sounds pretty normal. Have you switched to a different brand of shampoo/conditioner, or are you getting more sun than before? Sunlight makes hair a bit more brittle.

A coworker of mine claims her hair starts falling out whenever she's stressed. Not sure if that's universal or if it's just her. In any case I wouldn't worry about it unless your hair starts looking visibly thinner (and even then it can be perfectly natural, even if unfortunate; I started losing my hair when I was 18).

It just seems more frequent now for whatever reason. My hair is just busy, its curly too so my length I can't really say. I haven't changed shampoos or anything like that and haven't noticed any thinning, either. Nevertheless its bugging me.
