Console Region-locking

I made a thread a while ago asking about PC region-locking, and now wish to extend that question to consoles. Say that I want to buy a PAL game from Europe, and use it on an Australian (also PAL) system, will that work? I know it works with Gamecube games, even GC games on the Wii, but will it work for other console games as well?

Thanks

Edit: The PC question was already answered as a definitive 'no problems'.

from my experience any games from europe will work in australia on any console. Its that way with the PS2 and the Wii and the PS3 is not region locked. I am just assuming that the 360 is the same too

    No problems.

    Definitively.

Although you should bear in mind that if you are importing it, there may be a tax applied to it when it arrives if you are shipping it internationally (I have no idea, in the UK if it is of value higher than £21 there is an import duty applied).

    Thanks.

I don't think that there's an import tax, because I've imported GC and PC games from the UK before. Even if there is, it'll still be cheaper (and faster) than getting them here.

Any particular titles you are looking for? I can see if I can find some good prices on the retailers that ship internationally if you like?

    OK, thanks.

The only two right now are SSB:B and Fire Emblem RD (I know that this has already been released, but there were 3 copies within 50kms of me at launch, so I think importing might be necessary).

Also The World Ends With You, Baroque, Operation: Darkness, and some others that I can't think of at the moment.

No rush, I can't afford anything for a week.

    Also, thanks again.

I can't find anywhere that'll ship internationally that has preorders for Baroque and Operation: Darkness as of yet, but got prices on the rest -

    GAME:
    Shipping to Australia - £4.95
Super Smash Bros. Brawl - £34.99
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn - £29.99
The World Ends With You - £24.99

    Gameplay:
    Shipping to Australia - £4.95
Super Smash Bros. Brawl - £29.99
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn - £29.99
The World Ends With You - £24.99

    HMV:
    Shipping to Australia - £4.20
Super Smash Bros. Brawl - £32.99
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn - £29.99
The World Ends With You - £24.99

Gameplay.co.uk looks to be your best bet I think. If you want to, you can follow the link in my blog and find my referral link, but if not it's gameplay.co.uk

if you're getting brawl make sure you get a freeloader as well and don't update your wii from now on.

or just get it chipped as I did with my Wii since it is perfectly legal in Australia. It makes importing that much easier.

I was under the impression the 360 was game region locked to DVD regions, not just PAL/NTSC locked.

    But I might be wrong.

Region locking doesn't apply because he is referring to Australian (PAL) console and European (also PAL) games.

It's the same in principal as importing Canadian games for use in the USA as far as region locking is concerned.
