Does steam suck at downloading? My download for Stalker has been stuck at 84% and I can't seem to make it continue. It will start up and hit 2 or 3 hundred k per second for a few seconds and then quit again. I've been monitoring it on my other screen while I play HL2 to kill time. Maybe running a Seam app fucks up the downloading?
It used to be that running a Steam application stopped the download altogether, but that was changed a month or two ago. What you may want to try is going to your steam folder and deleting the clientregistry.blob file...that sometimes fixes things.
Sometimes it just gets stuck. The easiest way I've found to get it going again is to right click on the game, go to properties -> updates and set it to off, press ok, then turn it on again.

I'll back up the clientregistry.blob method, it's worked for me in the past. Do that, re-start steam, and it might work.
I swear I saw a patch note that said they fixed this issue.
It used to be really bad for just about everyone I talked to. You would set up some games to download, walk away and then come back to find them all stopped. We used to fix it by trying to launch the game. It would start the download back up again.
