My housemate's 360 is getting 'Disc unreadable' errors, on games that I have found to work fine on my XBox. So far it's only happened to Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect, so I don't know if it's beyond saving or not. Is there any quick and easy way to fix this? Sending it in is... undesirable, with GTA coming out so soon. Also, it's still within warranty and everything.
Probably. The optical drive on some 360's was a problematic component. My first 360 displayed the same behavior you've described and I had to send it in. It took just under a month to get it back.

Something to keep in mind is that the DRE is not the same as the red ring of death, and may not be covered by the three year extended warranty. If your 360 is out of warranty you'll have to pay for it, it's roughly $100 to $150, so you might just want to trade it in, pray it works when they test it, and get a newer model if that's the case.
