True to the original adventurous card game, "Lost Cities" transports players to exotic destinations where riveting adventures await. Before players embark on their trips they must choose how much to invest in the expedition in hopes of increasing their investment. Players then play their cards with the goal of amassing the most points and making prosperous expeditions through the various lost cities: the Himalayas, the Brazilian rain forest, the ever-shifting desert sands, ancient volcanoes and the mystifying depths of the oceans. Don't journey alone, invite up to three friends to join in the journeys over Xbox LIVE!
Developed by Sierra Online, "Lost Cities" will be available worldwide (with the exception of Japan and Korea) for 800 Microsoft Points and is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB. For more details on "Lost Cities" please visit:
Never heard of it, but I'm intrigued. I'll be trying the demo of this, for sure.

Tycho seems jazzed about it, and I love games of this ilk, so I'll definitely be grabbing the demo, and if it's at all interesting, I'll buy it. My girlfriend and I play Carcassone almost exclusively, so I'd like to be able to mix it up a bit. She loves Killer Bunnies, so maybe...

Has anyone actually played the card game? Can we get an outline of how the game works?

Catan is great fun as well ... if you ike Carcassone you'll probaly enjoy Catan.
- the deck consists of cards in five colours (representing expeditions), each colour having three 'hand-shake' cards and one of each number from 2 through 10.
- each player starts with 8 cards
- on your turn you may either play a single card from your hand to one of your expedition piles or to one of the common discard piles between the two players. There is a discard pile for each colour. You then either draw a card from the top of one of the discard piles or from the top of the deck.
- when playing a card to one of your expeditions, you can only play a card if it is greater than the last card you played in that colour. Handshakes must be played before any number cards in a given colour.
The round ends when the deck is exhausted, at which time scoring is as follows:
- For every expedition you started (ie. played at least one card of that colour), if the sum of the cards you played in that colour where X, you score (number of handshakes + 1) * (X - 20) points. This could be a negative number. There is also a 20 point bonus for every expedition in which you have 8 or more cards, handshakes included.
- No points scored for expeditions you did not start. A handshake counts as starting an expedition.
- Games are generally three rounds, with the highest cumulative score winning.
Mille bournes needs to make it onto XBLA. I remeber running into that back in the windows 3.11 days on some game cdrom. Later I found a 1956 version of it at goodwill. Ya, Its made of so much win. This now intrigues me if its anything like that.

Oh, shit. Mille bournes was awesome. My parents have an old ass deck of it at home. What an evil, evil game. Definitely more interested with this game now.
This is definitely worth checking out. I love strategy/card games, and I remember my parents having an old copy of Mille Bournes (or however you spell it).
At the risk of derailing the topic...
Why aren't there more games like this on XBLA? Hearts can be fun, but it really helps to play with the same group of friends. I tried the demo of Culdcept Saga last night and it was fun, but alas I can't buy it online. Are there any other types of games like these you guys recommend? Or should I start another topic?

Does it have local multiplayer? That's pretty much make or break for me.

Important to note is that Catan has a lot more to keep track of, and the balance is definitely off (often times one player will be completely screwed out of resources). Carcassonne is definitely the better of the two in my opinion.
I got on XBLA last night around 12:30am EST, hoping to try this game. I nearly giggled when I saw it on the list, but NOOOOOOOOOO it was just the trailer. Not even a demo. I guess I'll have to wait until tonight.
I still think XBLA is under-represented by strategy card games. Live is the perfect home for these kinds of games. What do we have to do to get more of them?
So I played the demo and it seems a bit simplistic to me. I think I'm going to pass.
In related news, they talked a little bit about Ticket to Ride on the 1up yours podcast today. Apparently it's already on partnernet, so hopefully that means the release is coming soon. I have the physical version of Ticket to Ride already and it should make a great XBLA game.
You can play this game with a five-suited deck of cards (you can get these at game stores, or just mark one suit from a second deck with the same back). Just use the face cards as handshakes. It also works reasonably well with an ordinary four-suited deck and a six-card hand for each player.

I think it would be impossible to include local multiplayer. From what I've read you can't let anyone see your cards.

No thanks.
