I saw this on NeoGaf and had to post

Brett Favre Madden
GameDaily BIZ has discovered that Electronic Arts is preparing to announce recently retired Green Bay Packers quarterback and three-time AP MVP Brett Favre as the cover athlete for the upcoming Madden NFL 09, which is slated to hit store shelves on August 12.

I think this is great news, Im not really a big madden fan but because Farve is on the cover, I might have to pick it up right when it comes out.

Interesting they are using a retired player. I guess there will be no Madden curse this year, unless he dies or something.

Well he's retired, so this probably means he's going to get hit by a bus.

eerily, the first thing I thought upon seeing the thread title was "Damn, Brett Farve is going to get hit by a bus."

    ..... Those words... exactly....D:

Maybe they had to get a retired player because no active player would do it thanks to the "Madden Curse."

    Fuck you.

EDIT: Man, I'm excited for 09 but I hope they make it less retarded with the passing in 08. I really didn't like the playbook system.

God, I got beat to that joke by like 5 people.

    Sad.

Anyway, fuck Madden. Where's my NCAA '09 Wii? Why would you release one franchise there but not the other?

I don't care about Madden at all. I hate sports games. But I respect Favre and what he did for the game of football. He's an amazing player and a humble one at that. He plays for the love of the game and not they money. Can't respect him enough. And knowing that Madden is such a big deal, this is a big honor for him I would have to assume. Only retired player to get put on the cover, am I right?

I don't see how people can say the madden curse still exists. VY already broke it last year by not sustaining a serious injury (he sat out one game, although he had been cleared to play before) and by improving in every single stat from his previous year.

Incidentally, VY also broke the SI curse the year before by winning the NC despite appearing on the cover.

The article mentions that this is the 20th anniversary of Madden so the choice of a retired player (who happens to be a great) is to commentate. Too bad about the game, however.

My impression of the "next-gen" Madden's was that they were less then spectacular. Ea seemed to be even more lazy now they got rid of Visual concept's competition. Any there any hardcore madden fans who can comment of the possible quality of this next installment?

I bought Madden 08 and NCAA 08. I was very underwhelmed, especially since they hyped up the stadium and crowds so much.

When fucking Texas Tech has a louder stadium than Texas A&M, you know you've fucked up massively.

There's some dumb rumors going around that he might actually come back...but I kinda doubt it.

He's been the darling of the NFL ever since he announced his retirement, it's no wonder he's the Madden cover boy.

Brett Favre was an NFL darling long before he retired.

But yeah, no way is he gonna come back. Doing so would really cheapen his retirement, in my eyes. Plus, I can't see him ending his career outside of greenbay.
