Quick WoW TCG question

There was a lengthy argument about this tonight.

So, I have a dude with "(4): Deal 1 shadow damage to target ally or hero, that characters controller discards a card for each damage dealt." I play the ally and tap 12 resources, to deal 3 damage and force my opponent to drop his whole hand.

He responds by using an ability to kill my newly played guy. My contention is he responded to my effect with his own, and that while his resolves first, my effects are still on the chain and will resolve after his does, regardless of if my dude lives or dies. He thinks that if my guy dies due to his effect resolution, the effects he added to the chain should fall off as well.

My main thing here is the rules make no mention of effects falling off the stack unless they are specifically interrupted, and this makes me think I am right.

    While I have never played the WoW TCG, I have played quite a bit of Magic: The Gathering (MTG:TCG). Looking up extended rules on the internet would be your best bet. I am thinking you are correct, let me double check.

    Rule 402.6
    "Once activated or triggered, an ability exists independently of its source as an ability on the stack. Destruction or removal of the source after that time won't affect the ability. Note that some abilities cause a source to do something (for example, "Prodigal Sorcerer deals 1 damage to target creature or player") rather than the ability doing anything directly. In these cases, any activated or triggered ability that references information about the source will check that information when the ability resolves, or will use the source's last known information if it's no longer in play."

    You are correct. While your opponents effect will remove your card from play and resolve first, you already activated the abilities in play before hand and they are on the stack and will still resolve after his. I realize this is Magic's rules and not WoW's, but I believe these games play very similarly.

    Edit: I have since read over the WoW:TCG Rulebook (your thread perked my interest a bit to confim the similarities (they were - though I couldnt find any information about resources, where they come from, how many you have, how do you get more, etc.) and of particular interest was the Chain section which is identical to Magic's stack. And I believe it was worded properly to answer your question from the get-go, nothing can or ever get 'removed' or fall off of the chain/stack unless it is specifcally interrupted or countered. What he did was not that.

    In fact, just pointing this out, if you reversed the roles in which abilities were activiated (he used his ability to destroy your newly played card. You in response could use its activated ability to inflict damage and force him to discard and it would resolve first before your card is removed from play. ;)

    The rules involving the 'chain' (or the stack as Magic calls it) are almost identical to Magic. If you put an effect on the chain, it resolves independent of it's source. Once an effect is on the chain, it doesn't matter if the source is in the graveyard or not.

    What your friend tried to do would be akin to killing Parvink before you get to draw a card. It doesn't work like that.
