360 troubles

I bought an Xbox360 (older premium model; no HDMI) about 9ish months ago now, and it recently stopped working.

When I turn on the system, the circle lights up red (all 4 quadrants) and the disc tray refuses to open, making a grinding sound D: This happened after I let a friend borrow it for about 2 weeks (:|); right when I got it back, the tray worked, and a game disc had been left in. The system did not work at this time either, red lights came on and I figured I should leave it alone for a few days.

With this Grand Theft Auto IV game coming out soon (you may have heard of it:P), I figured today I would cross my fingers and hope that it worked. No such luck, apparently.

So, I have a couple questions;

1- Will I still be able to send it in to get repaired? (I never got a warranty card or whatnot, since I bought used from a friend)

2- Do the arcade-model 360's have HDMI and could I use the HDD (and the content on it, like my Live Arcade games) I have now with it?

I am thinking of buying another 360 since the thought of not being able to play GTA4 for several weeks just...sucks. Plus I figured that if I ended up having to pay repair fee's on my FUBAR 360...what the hell, ya know? :|

Thanks in advance!

    You can still use the warranty on the current 360 if it is less than 1 year old. If not, you're only covered for the red rings of death, nothing else.

    And odds are it would be cheaper to get the 360 repaired via Microsoft than buy a whole new Arcade. Upon repair, you'll get a new warranty going with it. Could cost you in the neighborhood of $150, though, from what my friend told me. Still, that's cheaper than a new console.

    Call up Microsoft, see what their current policy tells you, then weigh out the cost and value of simply buying a new console.
